The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its May exhibition: The 41st
Annual LSAA Members’ Show. This juried exhibit is a celebration of the creative talents
found in the Lake Superior Art Association’s membership and will feature pieces from a
variety of media.
The SmallWorks Gallery will also feature an exhibit by Carolyn K. Snyder. Snyder
served as an illustrator at the Medical College of Wisconsin, creating black and white line
drawings for teaching and research publications. After retiring to Marquette in 2002, she
began painting again. Portraits from Life will feature oil painting portrait sketches. These
90-minute sketches were completed in one afternoon and are not considered to be
finished portraits. The landscape of the human face is a continuing fascination to Snyder
and these portraits are painted from live models. Her first concern is depicting the
nuances in features accurately to capture the likeness of the model.
The exhibits will be running May 2-26 and there will be an artist reception in conjunction
with the 21st Annual Art Awards held on Saturday, May 20, from 6 to 7 p.m. Immediately
following the reception, guests are invited to attend the awards ceremony beginning at 7
p.m. This event is free and open to the public with a “black and white” suggested dress
code to match the atmosphere of the Annual Art Awards.
