Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 12, Fair Avenue between McClellan Avenue and Gray
Avenue will be closed to through traffic for Phase 1 reconstruction work. This is the first of three
phases. This phase is expected to last three weeks.
The Fair Avenue work will detour traffic to down McClellan Avenue, Wright Street and
Woodland Avenue. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to
be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

under the Fair Avenue Reconstruction Project link at www.mqtcty.org.

PORTION OF SEVENTH STREET CLOSING DURING CONSTRUCTION

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday, June 9 Seventh Street from Fisher Street to Baraga Avenue will
be closed to allow for the widening of the street. This is the second phase of the Local Streets
portion of the Marquette Hospital Transportation Improvements Project. This phase is scheduled
to be substantially complete by the middle of July.
Currently there is no through traffic from US 41 to Washington Street. This notice will affect the
local residents who live in the area.
The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for
construction, detour and advisory signing. Pedestrian access will be maintained as much as
possible for the residents in this area.

MARQUETTE CITY MANAGER OFFERS COMMUNITY OFFICE HOURS

Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli will hold his next community office hours on Wednesday,
June 14, from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library.
The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community,
and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

RUN FOR LIFE SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 10

On Saturday, June 10 there will be a 5k and 10k foot race beginning at 9 a.m. in Mattson Park.
Both races will start at the park and proceed north on the multi-use path. The 5k will proceed to
a point just north of Pine Street and will return along the same route. The 10k run will proceed
to the upper harbor ore dock and then return along the same route.
No streets will be closed and the public is asked to use caution while driving in this area.

PUBLIC LIGHTHOUSE PROPERTY TOUR PLANNED FOR JUNE 20

The community is invited to participate in a Lighthouse Property Tour with consultant Ken Czapski
from Sanders & Czapski Associates:
Tuesday, June 20 at 5 p.m.
Rain Date: Wednesday June 21 at 5 p.m.

This tour will provide community members an opportunity to speak with the consultant, receive
information, see conditions of the Lighthouse property, comment and respond regarding the City of
Marquette Lighthouse Property Land Use Plan.

LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE KICK-OFF MEETING SCHEDULED

The City of Marquette Community Development Department, in conjunction with the Planning
Commission and planning & zoning consultant McKenna Associates of Michigan, will host an openhouse
style kick-off meeting for the project of creating a Land Development Code for the City. The
open house will begin one hour prior to the regularly-scheduled Planning Commission meeting:

The City of Marquette, through the Land Development Code (LDC) project, will modernize its landuse
codes, and create a user-friendly document that updates and combines various ordinance/code
elements. The intended impacts of this project are to update zoning districts and standards, to incorporate
new standards for increased environmental protection and the mitigation of the negative impacts of
urbanization and growth, and to reduce the complexity of the current land-use ordinances and reduce the
number of variance cases caused by outdated standards. The envisioned Code document will be
designed to assist in implementing the City’s vision to become a premier sustainable community with a
strong sense of place that provides unique opportunities for living, learning and business.

PHASE 1 OF WRIGHT STREET RECONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN

Neidhart Avenue and Tracy Avenue from Norwood Street to Wright Street will be closed to
through traffic for Phase 1 reconstruction work. This is the first phase of eight phases. This
phase is expected to last one week.
This Wright Street work will detour traffic to Sugarloaf Avenue, Hawley Street, and Presque Isle
Avenue. The Tracy Avenue work will detour traffic to Center Street, Van Evera Avenue, Wright
Street, Neidhart Avenue, Clark Street, and Sugarloaf Avenue. Businesses in this area are open
and patrons can access them by way of Sugarloaf Avenue or Wright Street, depending on the
direction of travel. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to
be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

A work session has been scheduled for Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. between the City Commission and Planning Commission to discuss the recommended Land Development Code (LDC) amendments regarding recreational marijuana licenses. The City Commission approved an ordinance in October allowing recreational licenses in the City and the Planning Commission has held four work sessions to discuss how to accommodate these licenses into the LDC.

The Planning Commission approved the recommendations after a public hearing held at their meeting on Jan. 7.
