Phase 3 work begins on Fair Avenue

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, Fair Avenue between Woodland Avenue west to the City limits will be closed to through traffic for Phase 3 reconstruction work. This is the last phase of the project. This phase is expected to last three weeks.

The Fair Avenue work will detour traffic to McClellan Avenue, Wright Street and Ontario Avenue. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

Trash to Treasure Weekend Scheduled

City of Marquette residents are invited and encouraged to participate in the community-wide “Trash to Treasure Weekend” beginning Friday, August 25 at 5 p.m. through Sunday, August 27 at 5 p.m.

The purpose of the program is to provide a venue for the recycling of reusable household items such as furniture, lamps, electronics and other working household items. The program is designed to increase awareness in recycling by creating an alternative means of reusing items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.


Presque Isle – Phases 2 and 3 Start

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, Presque Isle Avenue at the Fair Avenue intersection will be closed to through traffic for Phase 2 and 3 reconstruction work. It is expected this intersection will be closed for approximately one week. With this work completed, a temporary bypass road will be available to allow traffic to travel through this intersection on the south side of Fair Avenue to Third Street.

Genesee Closure, Traffic Disruptions

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, Oberstar, Inc. will be removing partial sections of curbing and proceeding with sanitary sewer lateral replacement on Genesee Street between Division and Altamont streets. This work is the prerequisite for the curbing replacement and milling/overlaying for this street. This work will be done with intermediate road closures and the public is urged to use extreme caution and follow all warning signs, lane shifts and other traffic control measures. The work is expected to last two weeks. Additional announcements will be forthcoming for mill and overlay activities.

Crack sealing to disrupt traffic

Beginning Monday, Aug. 14, various streets in the City of Marquette will experience traffic disruptions due to crack sealing activities on our city streets by JCS, Inc.

The public is advised to be aware of all flagging and traffic control devices and to use caution when traveling through areas requiring this process. The contractor will be starting at the north end of the City of Marquette and working their way towards the south and from east to west.


Phase 3 Begins in Wilson Street Work

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, Wilson Street between Grove Street and McClellan Avenue (M553) will be closed to through traffic for Phase 3 reconstruction work. This is the last of three phases. This phase is expected to last four weeks. In addition, Forest Park Drive will be closed to through traffic due to the work on the intersection at Wilson Street.

Spectacle performers, volunteers needed

The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces an open call to performers and volunteers for the 2017 Halloween Spectacle.

On Sept. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m., performers and volunteers are invited to Queen City Arts Co-op, located at 131 E. Michigan St. in Marquette, to share their acts and talents, or to sign up to volunteer, with Halloween Spectacle Directors. All are welcome!
