Lake Street to close for US 41 water main project

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, Lake Street between US 41 and Hampton Street will be closed to through traffic due to water main and sanitary sewer main construction work. The road is expected to be opened on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

Oberstar, Inc is the general contractor for this project.

US 41 access to Grove Street to close temporarily

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, Grove Street access from US 41, by means of the temporary roadway at Homestead Street, will be closed for construction activities. This work is scheduled to be completed in one week.

Grove Street traffic will be detoured by means of McClellan Avenue / M553. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

Bacco Construction Company is the general contractor for this project.

Presque Isle-Fair intersection to close Oct. 9

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, the intersection of Fair and Presque Isle avenues will be closed to through traffic for the completion of the roundabout construction work. This closure is expected to last a week.

This intersection work at Fair Avenue and Presque Isle will detour traffic from Presque Isle Avenue to Magnetic Street, Third Street, Fair Avenue, Lakeshore Boulevard, and Wright Street. The temporary bypass currently in use at this intersection will no longer be available and the detour route must be used.

Businesses in this area are open and patrons can access them by way of the detour route. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

Stage 4 of U.S. 41 project to begin Oct. 9

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, the intersection of Grove Street, Homestead and Anderson Streets will experience traffic disruptions for the start of Stage 4 construction work. This stage of the US 41 portion of the Marquette Hospital Transportation Improvements Project will involve traffic shifts and temporary stoppages at this intersection. This stage is scheduled to be substantially complete in two weeks.

Seventh Street will still be closed to through traffic off US 41 for this stage. The temporary roadway at Homestead Street will be open to allow traffic to access Grove Street and the other local streets in that area. The temporary traffic signal will still be set up for the temporary roadway to allow cross traffic to enter US 41. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli will hold his next community office hours on Wednesday,
October 11, from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library. The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

A work session has been scheduled for Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. between the City Commission and Planning Commission to discuss the recommended Land Development Code (LDC) amendments regarding recreational marijuana licenses. The City Commission approved an ordinance in October allowing recreational licenses in the City and the Planning Commission has held four work sessions to discuss how to accommodate these licenses into the LDC.

The Planning Commission approved the recommendations after a public hearing held at their meeting on Jan. 7.
