The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center (MACC) is seeking proposals from area artists for the design and fabrication of the 22nd Annual Art Awards. The Awards are the most prestigious honor conferred by the City on an individual artist, arts organization, business and arts patron, who have made an outstanding impact on arts and culture. The selected submission will design and fabricate ten identical awards to be presented at the ceremony and branded as the official award for the next several years.
The award proposal must be a three dimensional, free standing object easily handled by one person. Compensation for design and fabrication is $800. Artists must submit: resume or CV, concept for proposed design including, sketches and narrative description. Artist must also submit three images (prefer digital format on CD, thumb drive, or by email) that show the scope and breadth of their work.
Proposals are due by 5 p.m. on Friday Feb. 9, 2018. This is NOT a postmark deadline. Entries must be in the possession of the MACC by the deadline time and date. Late proposals will not be considered. Proposals may be submitted in person at the MACC, located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library at 217 N. Front St. They will be accepted Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They can also be mailed to the Marquette Arts and Culture Center c/o Arts Award, 300 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette, MI 49855. The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Peter White Public Library’s Lions Room has been moved to the Wave Room in the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. All other 2018 meetings will be held in the Lions Room.

Properties paying the “Solid Waste” fee on their monthly bills are eligible to use the Christmas tree drop-off sites. Owners and tenants of properties not paying the fee should contact their regular waste hauler for service. These sites are supported by fees, not taxes.
Beginning Dec. 26 and continuing through Jan. 15 there will be two drop-off sites available for Christmas tree disposal.
One site is located at the west end of the Lakeview Arena parking lot at 401 E. Fair Ave. Please place trees inside orange fencing.
A second site is located at Hurley Field at 240 Mesnard St. Please place trees inside orange fencing.
Residents are to remove all decorations and stands before disposing of their tree.
Due to the weather forecast, The Marquette Board of Light and Power meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12 has been rescheduled to Dec. 13. The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the BLP board room, located at 2200 Wright St.

A work session has been scheduled for Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. between the City Commission and Planning Commission to discuss the recommended Land Development Code (LDC) amendments regarding recreational marijuana licenses. The City Commission approved an ordinance in October allowing recreational licenses in the City and the Planning Commission has held four work sessions to discuss how to accommodate these licenses into the LDC.
The Planning Commission approved the recommendations after a public hearing held at their meeting on Jan. 7.
