As part of the Johnson Controls contract with the City of Marquette, which includes Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI), there needs to be a change in how water utility bills are calculated. Previously, bills were calculated using a charge per 100 Cubic Feet (CCF). AMI will require that bills be calculated using a charge per 1,000 gallons (KGAL).
After the Marquette City Commission approved Ordinances 661 & 662 to amend the water and sewer rates to bill per KGAL, this conversion will take effect starting with the January 2018 billing cycle.
The Base Rates will remain unchanged. Usage rate calculation factors for Water/Sewer utility customers will change as follows:
- Water users not paying property taxes or payment-in-lieu of tax: from $5.45 per CCF to $7.29 per KGAL.
- All other water users: from $5.00 per CCF to $6.68 per KGAL.
- All Sewer customers: from $7.70 per CCF to $10.29 per KGAL.
This conversion will not result in an increase for an average residential customer on their monthly water bill.
