March exhibits: NMU Art and Design / Marquette Artist Collective

The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its featured exhibitions for the month of March. The LSAA gallery will feature “SEEN / UNSEEN,” an exhibition by Photography students from Northern Michigan University’s School of Art and Design. The exhibit, a collaborative effort between students enrolled in the senior seminar, explores themes of identity, mental health, urban and rural landscapes and more.

The March SmallWorks Gallery features “Good Things Group Show,” a group exhibition by six members of the Mqt. Artist Collective – Claire Moore, Christine Saari, Rachel Storck, Joy Bender Hadley (founder), Stacy Giroux, and Cameron Wilcox. The Mqt. Artist Collective is a flexible, diverse group of visual artists from the Marquette community, whose focus is to be a creative, supportive, exhibiting group that meets bi-monthly to discuss art locally and worldwide, hold critiques and to create plans that contribute to their mission of creatively engaging the community in furthering the visual arts. The Collective was founded in August 2017, starting with three artists – Joy Bender Hadley, Melissa Sprouse, and Claire Moore – and has since grown to 20, growing still.

Both exhibits will be displayed March 3 to 31 with a closing artist reception on Thursday, Mar. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be provided.

The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library. For more information or questions, please contact 228-0472 or email arts-culture@marquettemi.gov.
