The Baraga Gym, located in the lower level of Marquette City Hall, will be closed from May 25 to June 4, while the floor is refinished.
The Parks & Recreation Master Plan Ad-Hoc Steering Committee meeting scheduled to be held in the Citizen’s Forum at Lakeview Arena on Thursday, May 24 at 5:30 p.m. has been relocated to the second floor Engineering Conference room, located in the Municipal Service Center at 1100 Wright St.
City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will close at noon on Friday, May 25, and will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain fully operational during this time.
Following the Memorial Day holiday, City offices will begin summer hours, and will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Peter White Public Library will be closed Monday, May 28, for the Memorial Day holiday. The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center, located in the library, will also be closed. Both will be open again on Tuesday, May 29.
National Public Works Recognition Week is May 20-26, and the community is invited to celebrate the positive impact the City Public Works Department has with an open house at the new Municipal Service Center. The Open House will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on May 21, in the new MSC, located at 1100 Wright St.
On Saturday, May 19, from 8 to approximately 9 a.m., participants in the Annual Big Bay Relay will be traveling through the City. This event will start at the Kaufman Sports Complex on Hawley Street, proceed west along the multi-use pathway, cross under County Road 550 at the Dead River Bridge and then head north along County Road 550 toward Big Bay.
No City streets will be closed for this event, however the public is asked to use caution while driving in this area.
Beginning Wednesday, May 16, Cinder Pond Marina seasonal slip holders, who have been authorized to do so, may place their vessels into their assigned slips at their own risk, due to current ice conditions.
Altamont Street will be closed to through traffic between McMillan Street and Blemhuber Avenue, due to a water line repair on Wednesday, May 16. This closure will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until the repair is completed. Estimated completion time is unavailable. Water disruption will be minimal.
