City Manager open office hours scheduled for June 13

Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli will hold his next community office hours on Wednesday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Dandelion Cottage room, located on the first floor, near the Huron Mountain Gallery, of the Peter White Public Library. The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

2018 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Schedule

The Marquette County Landfill will be conducting the Household Hazardous Waste Collection one Wednesday a month at the Compost/Household Rubbish site located at 1415 Pioneer Rd. The Household Rubbish site will be closed during this collection.

Marquette County Residents may dispose of Hazardous Waste from 3 to 7 p.m. during the following dates:

June 6
July 11
August 8
September 12
October 3

Presque Isle Avenue to close temporarily on June 5

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, Presque Isle Avenue, between Wright Street and Norwood Street, will be closed to through traffic for sanitary sewer work near the Wright Street intersection. The duration of this closure will be short, and plans are to have it open by 2 p.m. that same day.

The Presque Isle Avenue work will detour traffic to Fitch Street, Norwood Street, and Presque Isle Avenue. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

Hebert Construction is the general contractor for this project.

South Lake Street closing June 4 for construction

To facilitate water main construction work, South Lake Street, between US 41 and Hampton Street, will be closed to through traffic beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 4. The road is expected to be opened by 5 p.m. that same day.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.
Oberstar, Inc. is the general contractor for this project.

A work session has been scheduled for Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. between the City Commission and Planning Commission to discuss the recommended Land Development Code (LDC) amendments regarding recreational marijuana licenses. The City Commission approved an ordinance in October allowing recreational licenses in the City and the Planning Commission has held four work sessions to discuss how to accommodate these licenses into the LDC.

The Planning Commission approved the recommendations after a public hearing held at their meeting on Jan. 7.
