Scrap tire collection to be held Aug. 1

The City of Marquette has received a 2018 Scrap Tire Cleanup Program Grant from the MDEQ and is partnering with the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority (MCSWMA) for this collection. Crews at the Compost/Rubbish site will collect tires and haul them to the landfill for processing.

Community residents are welcome to bring scrap tires to the Compost/Rubbish site, located at 1415 Pioneer Road, on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. Individual residents may bring as many personal tires as they would like. Car and truck tires that are 22.5 inches in diameter or less (with or without rims) will be accepted as part of the program. Larger tires, tractor tires and tires on split rims will not be accepted at this site. Please see the MCSWMA website (www.mcswma.com) for more information on disposing of these types of tires.

Due to this special collection, household rubbish drop-off, which is also located at that site, will be unavailable on Aug. 1.

For any questions, call the MCSWMA at 249-4125 or the City of Marquette Public Works Department at 228-0444.
