City seeking volunteers for boards and committees

Marquette residents have the opportunity to get involved in the community by serving on a number of different City boards and committees, many of which have current openings. These include:

  • Board of Zoning Appeals – Five openings
  • Board of Review – One opening
  • Brownfield Redevelopment Authority – One opening
  • Harbor Advisory Committee – Four openings
  • Investment Advisory Board – Two openings
  • Local Officers Compensation Commission – Two openings
  • Local Development Finance Authority – Three openings
  • Traffic/Parking Advisory Committee – One opening

To be considered for any of these volunteer positions, you must be a registered voter in the City of Marquette and complete an application form, available online at marquettemi.gov, or by calling the City Manager’s office at 228-0435.

A work session has been scheduled for Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. between the City Commission and Planning Commission to discuss the recommended Land Development Code (LDC) amendments regarding recreational marijuana licenses. The City Commission approved an ordinance in October allowing recreational licenses in the City and the Planning Commission has held four work sessions to discuss how to accommodate these licenses into the LDC.

The Planning Commission approved the recommendations after a public hearing held at their meeting on Jan. 7.

The City of Marquette has a part-time position available for a Clerical Aide/Election Support in the Clerk’s Office. This position averages up to 29 hours per week. Must be available to work a flexible schedule Monday through Friday. The hiring rate is $10.75 /hr and includes paid time-off benefit.
