Board of Review meeting scheduled for Dec. 11

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Review, City of Marquette will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 300 W. Baraga Ave, Marquette, MI for the following purposes.

  1. An owner of property that is a “Principal Residence” on May 1 may appeal to the July Board of Review in the year for which an exemption was claimed or in the immediate succeeding 3 years if the exemption was not on the tax roll. For taxes levied after December 31, 2011, an owner who owned and occupied a principal residence on June 1 or November 1 for which the exemption was not on the tax roll may file an appeal with the July or December Board of Review in the year for which the exemption was claimed or in the immediate succeeding three years if the exemption was not on the tax roll. MCL 211.7cc(19)
  2. Request for current year only for poverty exemptions, but not poverty exemptions denied by the March Board of Review.
  3. Request for P.A. 161 of 2013 Disabled Veterans Exemption.
  4. Correct clerical errors or mutual mistake of facts.

All required forms and documentation shall be received five days prior to said meeting.

City Manager office hours set for Dec. 12

Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli will hold his next community office hours on Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library. The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

Due to Executive Orders issued from the Office of the Governor, the July 27 City Commission meeting will be held without the public in physical attendance. The public is invited to view and participate in the meeting electronically.
The meeting will be streamed on Channel 191 and YouTube starting at 6 p.m. Please note that the livestreams may have at least a 20 second delay.

Public Participation
There will be two options for public participation in the meetings: phone conferencing or written comment. There will be two public comment periods during each meeting, one at the beginning and one at the end. Comments will be limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address. Written comments will be limited to 500 words. Written comments can be submitted directly to shobbins@marquettemi.gov, written submissions will be accepted until 12 p.m. on Monday, July 27.
