Maureen Sullivan joins City as Senior Services Manager

The Community Services Department is delighted to welcome Maureen Sullivan as the new Senior Services Manager. She brings experience in programming and a passion for serving our U.P. communities.
Prior to joining the City, she served as Health and Recreation Advocate for the Superior Alliance for Independent Living (SAIL). During her time there, she expanded health and recreation programs across the U.P. for persons with disabilities. This included paddling, skiing and Veterans’ services. Before her time at SAIL Maureen worked for Northern Michigan University as an Exercise Assistant and assisted with a variety of senior programming.
Originally from Alaska, Maureen earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Michigan University in 2016, majoring in Management of Health and Fitness with a Minor in Dance. Maureen has served on a variety of boards, including the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for the City of Marquette, and she is the founder of Upper Peninsula Dance Outreach, a company providing dance programming and education to children in rural areas of the U.P.
“I am thrilled to join the Community Services team and have the opportunity to serve our communities seniors,” Maureen said.

On behalf of the City, the Superior Watershed Partnership (SWP) applied for, and was awarded, a $2.5M grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for the Lakeshore Boulevard Reconstruction Project.

The Marquette Lakeshore Restoration grant is funded through the National Coastal Resiliency Program administered by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Although 35 coastal resiliency projects were funded nationally, only two projects were located on the Great Lakes (see map). If the project is approved by the City Commission, the City will be required to provide a local match of $3M. The SWP will also provide $50,000 in match funds.

There will be a public information session on this topic held on April 3rd in the Citizens' Forum room at Lakeview Arena. More information can be found at: www.marquettemi.gov/lakeshoreblvd/
