Walking event set for May 16

On May 16, there will be a community event and walk, starting at the Marquette Commons. The event is planned from 1 to 4 p.m., with the walking portion taking place between 2:30 and 3 p.m.
Participants will head west on the multi-use pathway, crossing Fourth and Fifth streets, turning around at Seventh Street and returning to the Marquette Commons using the same route.
The walk is to occur exclusively on the multi-use pathway and participants are to follow the rules of the road, however the public is asked to be aware of and considerate toward people crossing the street.

Open studio with Creative-in-Residence Julie Benda

The Peter White Public Library, City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center, and Evolve MQT will host an open studio with Marquette creative-in residence Julie ReneƩ Benda from May 13th through May 18th. Benda is an interdisciplinary artist with a practice in print, illustration and sculpture. She studied both art and botany at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and later completed a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Using wood, text and image she works on projects that interact with and narrate shifting boundaries of land, water, people and plants. The community is invited to visit with the artist, see the process and discuss the overlap of print, wood, and storytelling. Open Studio is free and open to the public. Hours listed below:

  • Monday through Friday: 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Presque Isle Park Summer Hours begin

The City of Marquette official park hours go into effect Tuesday, May 14. City park hours are from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. There is no camping or overnight parking allowed in City parks.
As of Tuesday, May 14, the seasonal portion of Peter White Drive at Presque Isle Park will be open during park hours with the exception of closure for walking hours on the following days and times:

  • Monday and Wednesdays: 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 7 to 10 a.m.

Animals are prohibited at the City’s Presque Isle Park, unless confined to a motor vehicle, at all public bathing beaches, at Park Cemetery, and at any special events where signs are posted specifically prohibiting animals with the exception of leader dogs for the blind.
Please be aware of new parking signage. Please obey all parking signage, including new signs near Black Rocks area.
