The League of American Bicyclists this month designated Marquette, upon application, as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) at their Silver level. There will be a ceremony today at 5:30 p.m. outside of Marquette City Hall to recognize this honor, as well as those who are engaged in activities that foster and support a bicycle-friendly community in the Marquette area.
City staff will also announce plans for designating a network of on-street bicycle routes, which will begin next month. A certificate of award will also be presented to the City Commission at their meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
- Of 475 communities in the US to be recognized as a BFC, only 20% are at the Silver level or higher.
- This is the third time Marquette has been awarded as a BFC, the first award in 2010 was a Bronze-level award.
