Arts and Culture office hours altered during Art Week

The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center office will observe shortened hours during the 2019 City of Marquette Art Week, June 24 to June 28:

  • Monday, June 24
    • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 25
    • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 26
    • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 27
    • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Friday, June 28
    • CLOSED

Regular hours will resume on Monday, July 1. Staff will be checking email and voicemail messages throughout the week. Please contact the MACC at any time at (906) 228-0472 or e-mail arts-culture@marquettemi.gov.

June 23 procession to use City roads

Beginning at noon on Sunday, June 23, the Catholic Diocese of Marquette will be hosting a procession.

The procession will begin at noon at St. Peter’s Cathedral, located at 311 W. Baraga Ave., and will proceed north on Fourth Street to St. Michael’s Church located at 401 W. Kaye Ave.

The procession will utilize the roadway and have a police escort. Motorists traveling on Fourth Street are asked to avoid the procession and use an alternative route.

Art Week events planned

The City of Marquette is proud to present the 5th Annual Art Week, taking place June 24 to 29!

A week full of special events dedicated to arts and culture, including exhibits, artist receptions, concerts, workshops, demonstration and live performances. Art Week is made possible thanks to collaboration with over 100 local artists, businesses, organizations and other community partners.

Some of this year’s new events include an 8-Hour Comic Challenge, nightly concerts at the Marquette Commons, a special Pine Mountain Music Festival performance at the Presque Isle Band Shell, and a Community Drink & Draw at Ore Dock Brewing Company.

Art Week will also feature favorites from years’ past, including the Downtown Marquette Art Stroll, Fresh Coast Plein Air Painting Festival, and a host of workshops, surprise art installations and more.

Road closures planned during construction

Front Street, from Ohio Street to Hewitt Avenue, and Lynn Avenue, from Fair Avenue to Center Street, are closing at 7 a.m. on June 17. Both construction projects will continue for several weeks.
Additionally, Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed on June 17 from roughly 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Timothy Hainstock, New Hire

Timothy Hainstock has been hired as a new Heavy Equipment Operator in Public Works effective June 13. Tim has his CDL Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements, as well as doubles and chaufferurs license. Tim has over ten years experience in road construction and pipe work. He worked for both Smith Construction and A. Lindberg and Sons as a Driver/Laborer before being hired by the City.

Joseph Knight, New Hire

Joseph Knight has been hired as a new Heavy Equipment Operator in Public Works effective June 10. Joe is a graduate of Marquette Senior High School and has his CDL Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements. In addition to working as a welder and logger, Joe worked for Oberstar, Inc.as an Operator/Driver before being hired by the City.

Timeline PhotosCURBSIDE BRUSH AND LEAF PICKUP SCHEDULEDCurbside brush collection will be conducted April 26 – 30. The brush volume from each property is limited to one pickup load, a pile approx. 12’L x 6’W x 5’H.Crews will collect loose or brown bagged leaves May 3 - 14. Street sweeping and sand pickup will be conducted during leaf collection dates for all residential routes. The City will not collect material after the last date listed for each route.The composting drop-off site located at 1415 Pioneer Rd. is opening April 24 for the season. It is open Tuesdays 3pm – 7pm and Saturdays 9am – 1pm.
