Road closures planned for Oct. 12 Spectacle

Beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing through 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, West Bluff Street will be closed to motor vehicles between Seventh Street and Morgan Street to accommodate for the Marquette Spectacle. A rain date has been set for Sunday, Oct. 13.

No detour route will be provided.

The Marquette spectacle will also include a parade from the Marquette Commons to Harlow Park from 5 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. on the day of the event. The parade route will exit the commons, head north on Third Street, west on Washington Street and end at Harlow Park.

Kyle Johnson, Heavy Equipment Operator in Public Works, has successfully posted to the Special Equipment Operator position in the Water Distribution division. Kyle has his CDL- A and S-4 certification. He was hired by the City in June of 2004 as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Prior to joining the City, Kyle had worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Cliffs for eight years. Kyle will start his new position on Oct. 21. He is replacing Randy Bullock who has posted to the Meter Service Technician position.

Todd Brugman, Retirement

Todd Brugman, Meter Service Technician in the Water Distribution division of Public Works, will be retiring with 25 years of service on Thursday, October 17th. Todd attended Northern Michigan University where he received a certification in Auto Body Repair. He worked as a construction laborer for Closner Construction before being hired as a Laborer in Public Works in 1994. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator in Water Distribution for several years before posting to the position of Meter Service Crew Leader in 2012. In addition to his CDL-A, Todd holds an S-4 certification from the MDEQ.

BLP offices closed to foot traffic Oct. 4

The Marquette Board of Light and Power offices, located at 2200 Wright Street, will be closed to foot traffic on Oct. 4, to accommodate the front office remodeling project.

Customers can call the BLP billing department at 228-0311 for billing inquiries.

The office will re-open Monday, Oct. 7 and customer service representatives will be relocated to the Board Room during the project, which is expected to be complete by early December.

Due to this relocation, the Oct. 22 and Nov. 12 regular meetings of the BLP Board will be held in the Community Room of Lakeview Arena.
