Effective March 7, 2020, Firefighter Kevin Serkowsi has been promoted to Relief Engineer. Kevin was hired as a Firefighter/ Paramedic on July 2, 2016. Kevin has a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science and an associate degree in Paramedic Technology from Lake Superior State University. Prior to joining the Marquette Fire Department, he was a Paramedic with Kinross Emergency Medical Services in Kincheloe, MI.

Micah Heath has been hired as a Patrol Officer in the Police Department effective March 16, 2020. Micah has an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Finlandia University and obtained his MCOLES certification from NMU’s Police Academy in August of 2019. Prior to being hired by the City, Micah worked as a Patrol Officer for the Menominee Police Department and for Finlandia University Security.

Corey Teinert, Firefighter/Paramedic has resigned from the Fire Department as he’s accepted a new position out of the area. Corey’s last day will be March 6, 2020.

Greg Kinonen, Detective Lieutenant, has been promoted to Detective Captain effective March 2, 2020. Greg is a graduate of Northern Michigan University’s regional police academy and he received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Suomi College before being hired by the department as a patrol officer in October of 1997. In July of 2014 he was promoted into the Detective Bureau where he obtained the rank of Detective Sergeant in July of 2015 and Detective Lieutenant in November of 2015. Greg is replacing Mike Kohler who retired in July 2019.

Robert Harry has been hired as a Patrol Officer in the Police Department effective February 18, 2020. Robert has B.A. in Criminal Justice from Finlandia University and an EMT certification from Michigan Tech. He also obtained his MCOLES certification from NMU’s Police Academy in August of 2015. Prior to being hired by the City, Robert worked as a Patrol Officer at Michigan Technological University Public Safety and for both the Calumet Village Police Department as a Patrol Officer and Baraga County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff.
