REMINDER: Commission, BLP nominating petitions due Tuesday, April 21

Nominating petitions for those hoping to file as candidates for City Commission or Board of Light and Power must be returned to the City Clerk by 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Packets may be returned using the bill pay drop box at the southeast corner of City Hall, located at 300 W. Baraga Ave.

Residents looking to pick up a packet in advance of the deadline must call 225-8667 to determine how to best get the application materials in a timely manner.

At the time they are returned, these nominating petitions must be completed, notarized and paired with either the signatures of at least 25 registered City electors or with a non-refundable $100 payment.

April 21 PC meeting planned; public participation details

Due to Executive Order 2020-21, the April 21st Planning Commission meeting will be held virtually with Planning Commissioners and Staff attending remotely through Zoom video conferencing.

This meeting will be streamed on Channel 191 and on the City of Marquette YouTube channel ( Please note that the YouTube livestream will have at least a 20 second delay. The subject agenda materials are available online here:

Public Participation

There will be three options for public participation in this meeting: video conferencing, phone conferencing or written comment. There will be two public comment periods for the meeting, one at the beginning and one at the end. Comments will be limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address. Written comments will be limited to 500 words.

Members of the public wishing to make a video comment will need to visit on a computer or smart device that has a camera.

Members of the public wishing to call in and make a comment over the phone will need to call 312-626- 6799 and enter the meeting ID (482 141 742).

When participating via video or phone conferencing, you will be placed into a virtual lobby/on-hold until the Public Comment portions of the meetings are reached. Once Public Comment begins, the Chair will go through each person waiting in the lobby one at a time and provide them with the opportunity to address the Commission. It is recommended that participants follow the meeting on Channel 191 or YouTube to know when the Public Comment portion is occurring and be ready to make their comment.

The video and phone conference lobby will open at 5:50 p.m. on April 21.

PWPL Zoom meeting scheduled for April 21

The Board of Trustees of the Peter White Public Library will hold a regularly- scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 21, at 5:00 pm. Because of social distancing guidelines, this meeting will be held virtually via Zoom.

Lakeshore Boulevard relocation project begins

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, Wright Street from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to through traffic. In addition, Pine Street from Fair Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard and Lakeshore Boulevard from Fair Avenue to Wright Street will be closed to through traffic.

This is the beginning of phase one of a three-phase project that will relocate Lakeshore Boulevard between Pine Street and a point north of Hawley Street. This first phase will include roadway, multi- use pathway, and utility work from Pine Street to a point north of a new roundabout at Lakeshore Boulevard and Wright Street and along the north side of Wright Street, from the old railroad grade east of Presque Isle Avenue to the new roundabout. This phase is anticipated to be completed in the middle of July. Work may also start on the second phase between Wright and Hawley Streets during this time.

This work will require traffic to be detoured for Lakeshore Boulevard by means of Fair Avenue, Presque Isle Avenue, and Hawley Street. The multi-use pathway will remain closed between Pine Street and Hawley Street during the entirety of this project. The public is advised to not to travel through the construction limits area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.
