City facilities closed for Memorial Day

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time. Following the Memorial Day holiday, City offices will begin summer hours, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

On Tuesday, May 26, City facilities will continue being closed to the public, due to Executive Orders from the Office of the Governor. This includes City Hall, the Municipal Service Center, Fire Stations 1 and 2, the Police Department, Lakeview Arena, the Senior Center, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Water Treatment Plant. City operations will continue; however, the City will be operating at reduced staffing levels for the duration of the Executive Order and phone availability will be limited. May 21 MAWTAB meeting: Participation Details

Due to Executive Orders from the Office of the Governor, the May 21 Marquette Area Wastewater Treatment Advisory Board (MAWTAB) meeting will be held virtually with board members and Staff attending remotely through Zoom video conferencing. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.

There will be opportunity for public participation in this meeting: video conferencing, phone conferencing or written comment. Comments will be limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address. Written comments will be limited to 500 words.

PI launch access limited

The Presque Isle Marina launch ramp will have limited public access during the week of May 18-22, while a construction crew finishes up the new docks. Crews will require only one lane in the launch early in the week and pull out a few days later. During this time, public access to the launch will be reduced to one lane. The public is asked to use care and consideration when launching.

Waste Management collection update

The City of Marquette solid waste hauler, Waste Management, has received two new trucks which will change the way they pick up garbage and recycling in the City. These trucks are better equipped to handle the cart system the City currently offers. They will now pick up garbage with one truck and recycle with the other. Collection days and routes remain the same. Pickup will continue to be conducted between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. so please have your garbage and recycling curbside by 10 p.m. on your collection night.

Compost, rubbish sites closed for Memorial day

The Compost drop-off site, located at 1415 Pioneer Rd., will be closed Saturday, May 23, and the Household Rubbish site at the same location will be closed Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. The Compost site will reopen Tuesday, May 26, and the Household Rubbish site will reopen Wednesday, May 27.
