Sept. 14 City Commission meeting: participation details

Due to Executive Orders issued from the Office of the Governor, the September 14 City Commission meeting will be held without the public in physical attendance. The public is invited to view and participate in the meeting electronically.

The meeting will be streamed on Channel 191 and YouTube starting at 6 p.m. The YouTube channel is located at www.youtube.com/user/CityofMarquetteGov. Please note that the livestreams may have at least a 20 second delay.

Public Participation
There will be two options for public participation in the meetings: phone conferencing or written comment. There will be two public comment periods during each meeting, one at the beginning and one at the end. Comments will be limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address.


Written comments will be limited to 500 words. Written comments can be submitted directly to shobbins@marquettemi.gov, written submissions will be accepted until 12 p.m. on Monday, September 24.

Sept. 15 Planning Commission meeting: participation details

The Sept. 15 Planning Commission meeting will be held virtually with Commission members and Staff attending remotely through Zoom video conferencing. The only agenda item for the meeting is a work session on potential amendments to the Land Development Code.

This meeting will be streamed on the City of Marquette YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/CityofMarquetteGov). Please note that the YouTube livestream will have at least a 20 second delay.

Public Participation
There will be three options for public participation in this meeting: video conferencing, phone conferencing, or written comment. There will be three public comment periods for the meeting, one at the beginning, one during the public hearing request, and one at the end. Comments will be limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address.

The video and phone conference lobby will open at 5:50 p.m. on Sept. 15. Once Public Comment begins, the Chair will go through each person waiting in the lobby one at a time and provide them with the opportunity to address the Commission. It is recommended that participants follow the meeting on YouTube to know when the Public Comment portion is occurring and be ready to make their comment.

“Words to Live and Bike By” Mural winners announced

On behalf of the Marquette Public Art Commission, the City of Marquette Arts & Culture Division is excited to announce the winning artists and design proposals for the Words to Live and Bike By bike path mural project.
The Words to Live and Bike By project involves the painting of five text-inspired, site-specific murals on the surface of the Holly Greer Bike Path in Marquette. Applicants were asked to submit design proposals that reflect a unique and imaginative interpretation of each word and their accompanying locale.
The winners and their words and locations are as follows:

  • Michele Tuccini; “REMEMBER”; Founders Landing
  • Delaney Pickett; “GRATITUDE”; Marquette Commons
  • Ben Pawlowski; “DREAM”; Mattson Lower Harbor Park
  • Stella Larkin and Superior Watershed Partnership; “RESPECT”; between Picnic Rocks and McCarty’s Cove
  • Alan McAnulty; “HOPE”; Clark Lambros Park

Painting will take place between Sept. 14-25.

Construction at Founders Landing has started for the new pier project. Effective immediately, the boardwalk at Founders Landing and the City multi-use path between Spring Street and the trail intersection near the Lakeshore Boulevard and US 41 intersection will be closed to through traffic. The closure is required to accommodate construction work on the City South Pier project and for building construction at the Two Marquette Place development.Multi-use path traffic will be detoured around this area by means of the sidewalk along Front Street/US 41.
