Traffic Disruptions for Soil Boring Activities

Beginning on Wednesday, October 28th, 2020 various areas in the City of Marquette will experience traffic disruptions due to soil boring operations.  Tri Media Consultants will be performing soil boring sampling for future street reconstruction projects.  The public is advised to use caution when traveling through these areas and be aware of all flagging and traffic control. Work is planned on the following dates at the locations listed below:

Wednesday, October 28, 2020

  • Shiras Drive – US41 to Radisson
  • Newberry Street – Division to East End
  • Washington Street – Rublein to 450 ft East

Thursday, October 29, 2020

  • Front Street – Magnetic to Fair
  • College Avenue – Presque Isle to Front
  • Pine Street – Prospect to Hewitt
  • Hewitt Avenue – Pine to Spruce

Be advised that the weather may delay these operations until the next available day.

Household Rubbish and Compost Site Closure Dates

The City of Marquette Household Rubbish drop-off site, located at 1415 Pioneer Road will be open for the last day of the season, on Monday, Nov. 2 from 3 p.m. to dusk.

The Compost site will be open Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  and Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 3 p.m. to dusk. This site will then be closed for the season.

An announcement will be issued when both sites reopen Spring 2021.

Logan Triest has been hired as a Firefighter effective Oct. 12, 2020. Most recently, Logan was employed as a Paramedic for Beacon Ambulance in Iron Mountain and worked as an EMT for Rapid Response One EMS.
Logan has served on the Hermansville Rescue Squad and Powers Spalding Fire Department. He obtained his Associate’s degree in Applied Science in Paramedic from Bay de Noc Community College and his EMT

He obtained his Certificate in Paramedicine from the Michigan Academy of Emergency Services and attended Hennepin Technical College for Community Paramedicine.

Christina Tyynismaa has successfully posted to the Assessing Technician position that will be vacant with Amanda Gerber’s promotion to Appraiser. Christina was hired by the City as a Customer Account Clerk/Cashier in March of 2015 and promoted to Utility Billing Clerk in July of 2016. Christina will be training to take over the duties of Assessing Technician officially on Nov. 23, 2020. Congratulations!

Amanda Gerber, Assessing Technician, has successfully posted to the Appraiser position that will be vacant with Ellen Britton’s retirement. Amanda was hired in 2006 as a Customer Account Clerk/Cashier for the
City and in 2008 promoted to Zoning/Code Enforcement Official. Amanda posted to the then newly created position of Assessing Assistant in the Community Development Department effective July 18, 2011 and
was later promoted to Assessing Technician in May of 2016. Amanda will take over the duties of Appraiser officially on Nov. 23, 2020. Congratulations!

Ellen Britton, Appraiser, will be retiring officially on Nov. 23, 2020 after more than 29 years of service to the City of Marquette. Ellen was hired Sept. 3, 1991 as a Customer Billing Clerk in the Water Billing Department. Ellen was promoted to Administrative Assistant in the Public Works Department in 1998 and again promoted to Clerk in the Assessing Department in 2000. In 2003, Ellen promoted to Administrative Assistant in the Community Development Department and later transitioned to Accounts Payable Clerk in the Finance Department in July 2005. Ellen made her final departmental move in November 2005 when she promoted to the Level I Assessor’s position. Ellen promoted to her current position as Appraiser in July of

Construction at Founders Landing has started for the new pier project. Effective immediately, the boardwalk at Founders Landing and the City multi-use path between Spring Street and the trail intersection near the Lakeshore Boulevard and US 41 intersection will be closed to through traffic. The closure is required to accommodate construction work on the City South Pier project and for building construction at the Two Marquette Place development.Multi-use path traffic will be detoured around this area by means of the sidewalk along Front Street/US 41.
