Beginning Wednesday, June 30, 2021, the City of Marquette Water Department will be flushing water mains until approximately Friday, July 30, 2021. The area affected is bounded by and including Wright Street on the north, Magnetic Street on the south, McClellan Avenue on the west and Elizabeth Harden Circle on the east.
Residents may experience cloudy water and minimal water disruptions during this time. Please let the water run until it is clear prior to usage.
West Avenue closure to through traffic for a storm main repair between Center Street and Wright Street has been extended to be completed by end of day June 30.
West Avenue will be closed to through traffic for a storm main repair between Center Street and Wright Street beginning Tuesday, June 29 at 7:00 a.m. This project is expected to be completed by end of day.
Summer tax bills totaling approximately $32.9 million dollars were mailed to Marquette City property owners. The due date for payment of City summer taxes is September 14, 2021.
Tax collection begins July 1, 2021 and payments are accepted at the City Treasurer’s office without interest through September 14, 2021. Interest of 1% is added to the summer tax bill on September 15th and on the 15th of every following month.
The 2021 summer property tax bill represents millage levies for the City of Marquette, Library, Senior Millage, DDA, Marquette Public Schools, State Education, Marquette-Alger RESA, County Operating, and Iron Ore Heritage Authority.
The July 1, 2021 meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeal swill start at 7 p.m. and be held in the Commission Chambers of City Hall located at 300 W. Baraga Avenue. Written comments can be submitted by emailing alanders@marquettemi.gov. Written submissions will be accepted until 12:00 p.m. on July 1, 2021.

On Saturday June 26, 2021 U.P. Rainbow Pride is holding a vehicle procession on City streets from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The planned route starts at the NMU PEIF parking lot, heads west on Fair Avenue towards Presque Isle, south on Presque Isle to Fourth, east on Washington, north on Lakeshore, west on Fair, south on Third, west on Baraga, north on Fourth to Presque Isle and ending at the NMU PEIF parking lot.
Participants are required to follow the rules of the road; however, the public is asked to be alert along the route.
The Peter White Public Library will be closed Monday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day. The Library will re-open at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6.
The Noquemanon Trail Network (NTN) will be hosting biking and running events Saturday June 26 and Sunday June 27 on trails crossing the Mount Marquette roadway. The Mount Marquette roadway between M553 and Cliffs Power Road will be closed to vehicular traffic Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon for these events.
