Art Week 2021 Events Planned for June 21-26

The City of Marquette is proud to present the sixth annual City of Marquette Art Week, June 21 through 26, 2021! A week full of special events will be spread throughout town, dedicated to arts and culture, and including exhibits, concerts, workshops, installations, demonstrations, and live performances. Art Week is made possible thanks to collaboration with over 200 local artists, businesses, organizations, and other community partners, and is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. 

Most Art Week events are hosted outside and spread across the city, to ensure everyone participating is comfortable and safe as we embark on the first major event of the summer. Headlining events include a kickoff concert by Hiawatha Music Co-op at the Marquette Commons, performance stages, installations and workshops at Mattson Lower Harbor Park by Marquette Fringe, Year of the Sunrise Exhibition at UP Supply Co., the annual Fresh Coast Plein Air painting competition, performances by the Marquette City Band and the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, The Upstarts performance as part of Pine Mountain Music Festival, a Willie Nelson tribute concert and picnic at Tourist Park, a Wednesday Artist Market at the Marquette Commons, Paint the Downtown with Love sidewalk chalk competition by the UP Children’s Museum, a performance by TaMaMa Dance Company and Superior Strings Alliance, and many more popup artist demos, workshops, music, performances, installations, and exhibits to explore throughout the week!

The Marquette DDA is seeking a full-time Maintenance Manager to lead our maintenance team. The Maintenance Manager establishes, coordinates, and supervises general maintenance and repair of downtown sidewalks, parking lots, green spaces, walkways, and facilities managed by the DDA. Construction at Founders Landing has started for the new pier project. Effective immediately, the boardwalk at Founders Landing and the City multi-use path between Spring Street and the trail intersection near the Lakeshore Boulevard and US 41 intersection will be closed to through traffic. The closure is required to accommodate construction work on the City South Pier project and for building construction at the Two Marquette Place development.Multi-use path traffic will be detoured around this area by means of the sidewalk along Front Street/US 41. The closure and detour are expected to remain in effect until the end of the 2021 construction season.The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.
