Nathan King, New Hire

The Marquette Police Department would like to welcome Nathan King as their new Patrol Officer effective
April 12. Officer King is a Marquette native who attended NMU receiving his Associate’s degree in Law
Enforcement. He completed the Marquette Regional Police Academy in September 2020. Prior to joining
the City of Marquette, Nathan was employed by Border Grill. Welcome, Nathan!

Ryan Anderson, Re-Hire

The Department of Public Works welcomes back Ryan Anderson as a rehired Heavy Equipment Operator
effective March 31. Ryan previously worked in this capacity from 2017-2019, at which time he decided to
return to CCI for another position. Ryan has returned to the City as an HEO and will report to Art Carlson.

Michelle Marzec, New Hire

The City of Marquette would like to welcome Michelle Marzec as our new part-time
Administrative Assistant in the Marquette Senior Center effective April 12. Michelle has a BS in
Elementary Education (Mathematics) from NMU and a Montessori Primary Diploma from the Montessori
Center of Minnesota. Prior to joining the City of Marquette, Michelle worked for the DeVooght’s General
Store in Skandia as well as Montessori schools. Welcome, Michelle!

Michael Roth, Promotion

Effective March 29, Patrol Officer Michael Roth has been promoted to Uniform Corporal in the Police
Department. Cpl Roth was hired by the City as a Patrol Officer in July 2010. Prior to joining the City, he
received his Bachelor’s degree from NMU in Criminal Justice and went on to graduate the NMU Regional
Police Academy and later worked as a Police Officer for the NMU Public Safety and Police Services.

Rob Hanson, Promotion

Effective March 8, Corporal Rob Hanson has been promoted to Patrol Sergeant in the Police Department.
Sergeant Hanson promoted to the position of Uniform Corporal effective May 2, 2016. Rob has an
associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Michigan University and graduated from the
Regional Police Academy in 2001. He served as an intern with the Marquette City Police Department
in 2000 and also worked in Park Patrol while in school. He worked for two years as a Patrol Officer for
the Ishpeming City Police Department before being hired by the City in 2003

Thomas LaTourneau

Tom LaTourneau has resigned his position as Engineer in the Fire Department effective Feb. 6, 2021 in order to pursue a position with the Upper Peninsula Surgery Center in Marquette. Tom was hired by
the City in 2015.

Benjamin Gardner, Promotion

Ben Gardner, Firefighter/Paramedic in the Fire Department, has been promoted to the rank of Relief Engineer effective Feb. 8th. Ben was hired by the City in December 2017. Ben worked for the De Pere Fire Department
as a Paramedic Intern before being hired by the City.

Garret Fuller, Promotion

Relief Engineer Garret Fuller has been promoted to the rank of Engineer in the Fire Department effective Feb. 8th. Garret had worked as a firefighter for Otsego County and Kalamazoo Township prior to being hired by the City in 2016. He had been a Relief Engineer since December 2019.

James Finkbeiner, Promotion

Congratulations to Sergeant Jim Finkbeiner on his promotion to Uniform Lieutenant effective March 8, 2021. Jim has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Northern Michigan University (NMU) and is a graduate of NMU’s Regional Police Academy. He was hired as a Patrol Officer in the Police Department on October 4, 2000. In July of 2006, he was promoted to the position of Uniform Corporal and on Sept. 25, 2017 again promoted to Sergeant.
