New Cross-District High School Program - Artists in Excellence

The City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture announces a new cross-district program that provides unique arts-based extracurricular experiences for students from Negaunee, Marquette, and Ishpeming High Schools. Artist in Excellence (AIE) introduces students to careers in the visual arts and design industry, fosters leadership, partnership, and teaches the value of arts and its contribution to our greater community. AIE is generously funded by the Upper Peninsula Health Plan and matching funds from the Community Foundation of Marquette County's Youth Fund.

AIE provides a much-needed extra-curricular opportunity for upperclassmen who are currently enrolled in visual art and have demonstrated a high level of commitment to their artistic studies. Students meet experiences that connect with industry professionals and provide a deeper understanding of career paths available locally in arts education, business, marketing, design, public art, placemaking, tech arts and more. In addition, students explore diverse arts and culture offerings, lead a community art project, and become ambassadors for their respective school art programs and City.

AIE is administered by the Office of Arts and Culture, created in partnership with local art teachers: Jake Fether, Alex Trotter, and Kimberly Shefchik. The City Office of Arts and Culture is committed to creating opportunities, develop our youth and retain local talent to ensure Marquette continues to be a distinct and unique place that young people can visualize and create a future in their hometown.
