Cultural Trail Sculpture - Community Feedback Wanted

As part of the Cultural Trail Project, the Marquette Public Art Commission (MPAC) has invited Anishinaabe contemporary stone sculptor Jason Quigno to design, fabricate and install a stone sculptural work at the entrance of the new pier in downtown Marquette.

The Cultural Trail aims to share the various stories of our community. To honor Marquette's cultural heritage, history, and environment through public art, interpretive signage, and design, along a seven-mile multi-use coastal pathway on the shores of Lake Superior. Quigno is a tribal citizen of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and a lifelong resident of Michigan. He is a nationally renowned sculptor and has strong personal connections to the local area.

The community is invited to review his sculpture proposal, “Seven Grandfather Teachings,” and submit feedback on the proposed design and overall project.

To view the project packet and submit your feedback; follow the link https://forms.office.com/r/QupmFmbMGG This form will close on Friday, September 8, 2023 at  5:00 p.m.  The public is also invited to offer public comment during the MPAC monthly meeting which occurs on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Arts & Culture Center (217 N Front St, Lower level of PWPL)
