Words to Live and Bike By - Bike Path Mural

On behalf of the Marquette Public Art Commission, the City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture announces the installation of the second round of β€˜Words to Live and Bike By’ bike path murals on the City Multi-use Pathway.

The Words to Live and Bike By project involves the painting of six text-inspired, site-specific murals on the surface of the Holly Greer Bike Path in Marquette. Applicants were asked to submit words and original design proposals fitting for the accompanying locale. The chosen artists and their words and locations are as follows:

Lee Pyper; β€œPERSEVERE”; Hospital Corridor & Beacon House

Emma Schramm; β€œEMBRACE”; 7th Street & Beacon House

Olivia Capodilupo; β€œGROW”; Intersection of Bike Path & Center Street

Lena Wilson; β€œPLAY”; Kaufmann Sports Complex

Aiyana Aldred; β€œRECIPROCITY”; S. Lakeshore Blvd. & E. Hampton St.

MPAC members; β€œINSPIRE”; S McClellan Ave across from Superior Hills Elementary School

Painting will take place August 11-13, 2023. Please be respectful and cautious on these sections of the City Multi-use Pathway during installation.

August 10 Scrap Tire Collection

The Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority (MCSWMA) has received a Scrap Tire Cleanup Grant from EGLE. They will be at the Compost/Rubbish site located at 1415 Pioneer Road August 10 from 3 -7 p.m. for collection.

All Marquette County residents may bring up to 10 tires at a time. Car and truck tires that are 22.5 inches in diameter or less (with or without rims) will be accepted at this collection. Larger tires, tractor tires and tires on split rims will NOT be accepted at this site. Please see the MCSWMA website www.mcswma.com for more information on disposing of these types of tires.

PORTION OF LAKESHORE BLVD CLOSED

Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to through traffic between Pine Street and Fair Avenue for shoreline protection maintenance on Friday, August 11. This project will begin at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to be completed by the end of the day.

Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Pine Street from Fair Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard and Powder Mill Road from County Road 550 to the north end will be closed, and Wright Street from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic for the β€œOre to Shore” Mountain Bike Race.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling on Wright Street, Hawley Street, River Park Circle and Schneider Mill Court.  Race participants will be crossing at designated locations at varying times.

Portion of Lakeshore Blvd Closed

Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to through traffic between Pine Street and Fair Avenue for shoreline protection maintenance on Tuesday, August 8. This project will begin at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to be completed by the end of the day.

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, August 9 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side).  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

Hampton Street Closure- Gas Main Work on Division Street

Beginning Thursday August 3, 2023, West Hampton Street will be closed between Adams Street and Division Street and work will be occurring on the shoulder of Division Street between Furnace Street and Genesee Street. SEMCO Energy will be completing gas main work in this area. The work is anticipated to last two weeks.

The public is advised to take caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

Front Street Sidewalk and Southbound Lane Closure

The southbound lane of Front Street between Main Street and Spring Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the day Wednesday August 2. Southbound traffic will be detoured around the closure via Main Street, Third Street, and Baraga Avenue. Northbound traffic on Front Street will remain unaffected. To ensure safe working conditions the sidewalk and parking lane in front of site will remain closed for the duration of the underground construction work.

The public is advised to take caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.
