Special Election
May 5, 2026
Marquette Area Public Schools (MAPS) called a special election to ask district voters to consider a bond proposal. This proposal is the only item on the ballot.

State Primary Election
August 4, 2026
The state primary election will have both partisan and nonpartisan races to determine which candidates will move forward to the November general election.
General Election
November 3, 2026
The statewide general election will include contests for partisan offices such as governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and secretary of state, along with partisan races for both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Voters will also see nonpartisan local offices on the ballot, as well as several ballot proposals.
Register to Vote
If there are 15 days or more before an election, individuals can register to vote in a number of ways, including online with a Michigan driver's license or State ID. You can register at www.michigan.gov/vote, by mail or in person at the City Clerk's office.
Within 14 days of the election (including on election day) an individual may only register to vote in person at their local Clerk's office.
During this 14-day window, in order to register in person an individual may be required to provide additional proof of residency; the list of acceptable documentation includes a utility bill, bank statement, pay stub, government check, other government document, or lease agreement.

The City of Marquette has four precincts voting in two separate election day polling locations. All four precincts vote at the same early voting location.

Vote Early
Any voter registered in the City of Marquette can vote during the 9-day early voting period in all state and federal elections. The City of Marquette will offer a limited early voting schedule for all other, local, elections.
Early voting for the May 2026 election begins Thursday, April 30 through Saturday, May 2. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. throughout the 3 days.
The Peter White Public Library, located at 217 N. Front Street, has been selected as the early voting site for the City of Marquette.
NOTICE: The Close of Polls for the Early Voting Site will take place on Election Day, May 5, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. in the Baraga Gym, City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Ave.
The Close of Polls is open to the public to observe.
Vote by Absentee Ballot
Absentee Ballot Applications can be obtained:
- Online at www.michigan.gov/vote
- By phone request to the Clerk’s office
- In person at the Clerk’s office
Permanent Absentee Ballot Voters
- Voters who want to automatically receive a ballot for all future elections may sign up for the Permanent Absent Voter List when submitting an Absent Voter Ballot Application or online at www.mi.gov/vote.
NOTICE: The Absent Voter Counting Board will be processing and tabulating absentee ballots prior to election day and on election day. The Absent Voter Counting Board will be located in Commission Chambers at City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Ave.
May 2026 Election - Preprocessing and tabulation of absentee ballots will take place during the following times:
- April 30 - until complete (__ workers)
- May 5 - until complete after the close of polls (__ workers)
Vote In Person on Election Day
General Election - Tuesday November 4, 2025
Vote at your assigned precinct; polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day.
Your current precinct and polling location is noted on your Voter ID card, and can also be found online at www.michigan.gov/vote.
Candidate Filing Information
City of Marquette
The filing deadline for candidates for the Marquette City Commission and the Marquette Board of Light and Power for the 2026 election is July 21, 2026. Under state law, candidates are required to file completed paperwork with the City Clerk no later than 4 p.m. on that day.
The following filing information will be updated for the 2026 election cycle in June.

2025 Candidate Filing Packet - Must be signed and notarized
One of the following must also be returned:
Official Candidate Petition Forms with the signatures of at least 25 registered electors from the City of Marquette
or $100 nonrefundable filing fee
For those looking to gather signatures, official petition forms can be obtained in person at the City Clerk's Office.
Additionally, the State of Michigan's Statement of Organization form must be filed with the Marquette County Clerk. This form must be filed by all candidates, even if they don't plan to fundraise. Candidates have a number of days after filing with the City Clerk in which they can still submit this form to the County Clerk.
