November 4, 2025

The 2025 General Election will determine who holds each of two seats on the Marquette City Commission, as well as one seat on the Marquette Board of Light and Power. All seats are for three-year terms.

Under Michigan law, candidates for these local offices are required to have completed and filed nominating petitions with the City Clerk by 4 p.m. on July 22, 2025

Candidate Filing Information

City of Marquette

The filing deadline for candidates for the Marquette City Commission and the Marquette Board of Light and Power is July 22, 2025. Under state law, candidates are required to file completed paperwork with the City Clerk no later than 4 p.m. on that day.

Those looking to file as candidates can first review the City's Candidate Filing Information.

The following packet must be completed and submitted in person at the City Clerk's Office no later than 4 p.m. on July 22:

     2025 Candidate Filing Packet - Must be signed and notarized

     One of the following must also be returned:

          Official Candidate Petition Forms with the signatures of at least 25 registered electors from the City of Marquette

          or $100 nonrefundable filing fee

For those looking to gather signatures, official petition forms can be obtained in person at the City Clerk's Office.

Additionally, the State of Michigan's Statement of Organization form must be filed with the Marquette County Clerk. This form must be filed by all candidates, even if they don't plan to fundraise. Candidates have a number of days after filing with the City Clerk in which they can still submit this form to the County Clerk.

City of Marquette polling places for this election cycle are as follows:

Precincts 1 and 2: Baraga Gym At City Hall

Precincts 3 and 4: YMCA of Marquette County

Polling Times

Per state law (MCL 168.720) polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Voters in line to vote at 8 p.m. shall be allowed to vote.

Election Background Information

The City of Marquette, in accordance with the City Charter and State Law, conducts elections annually to determine the membership of the Marquette City Commission and the Marquette Board of Light and Power. There are seven members of the City Commission and five members of the Board of Light and Power.
