Complimentary Holiday Parking Available After 3 P.M. in the DDA

In celebration of the holiday season, enforcement of the metered parking and 2-hour customer parking areas will be suspended after 3 p.m. throughout Downtown Marquette. This complimentary holiday parking will be available during the week (Monday through Friday), beginning Thursday, Nov. 26 and ending Sunday, Dec. 27.


After 3 p.m., visitors to Downtown Marquette may park without restriction in any of the public parking spaces within the district, except those reserved for handicapped, 24-hour reserved spaces or loading zones. This includes North Third Street, the lower and upper level of the Bluff Street Parking Ramp, Commons Lot, Main Street Lots, Lakeshore Boulevard Lot, Rock Street Lot, East Baraga Avenue Lot, and the Spring Street Lot. Overnight parking restrictions will still be enforced. The courtesy parking is offered compliments of the Marquette City Police Department and The Marquette Downtown Development Authority.

Applications Available Online For Animal Licensing, Off-Leash Park

City residents looking to license their dog or cat can now find the applications available online at the City’s website, along with instructions for completing the form correctly. Once completed, the application can be returned to the City Clerk’s office either by email, or via postal mail or overnight drop box. Once received and processed, licensing documents will be mailed to applicants.


Similarly, citizens are now able to submit an application for an off-leash park pass in the same manner. The City’s off-leash area is located in Tourist Park, and is open to those with a pass from Nov. 1 through April 30. In order to receive a pass to the off-leash area, dogs must be licensed in Marquette County.

December 1st Planning Commission Meeting Participation

The December 1st Planning Commission meeting will be held virtually with Commission members and Staff attending remotely through Zoom video conferencing. This meeting will be streamed on the City of Marquette YouTube channel. (https://www.youtube.com/user/CityofMarquetteGov). Please note that the YouTube livestream will have at least a 20 second delay, and that anyone that wishes to participate in the meeting via Zoom (directions are provided below) will need to open the livestream to follow along while they wait to enter the meeting.

There will be three options for public participation in this meeting: video conferencing, phone conferencing, or written comment. There will be three public comment periods for the meeting, one at the beginning, one during the public hearing request, and one at the end. Winter Property Tax Bills

Winter tax bills totaling approximately $1.7 million dollars will be mailed to Marquette City property owners on Nov. 30. Tax collection begins Dec. 1 and payments are accepted at the City Treasurer’s office without penalty through Feb. 14, 2021. A penalty of 3% is added to the winter tax bill on Feb. 15. On March 1, 2021, taxes are considered delinquent and are transferred to the County Treasurer for collection.

The 2020 winter property tax bill represents millage levies for Marquette County Transit, County Aging, County Medical Care Facility, County Dispatch, County Rescue, County Veterans’ Affairs, and adjustments due to the revised summer millage for County Operating, Marquette-Alger RESA, and Iron Ore Heritage Authority

Call to Artists – Handcrafted Holidays: Local Art Gift Guide

The City of Marquette Arts & Culture Division invites independent artists residing in Marquette County to submit their online selling information and photos of their work to be included in a holiday gift directory, “Handcrafted Holidays”, for no cost.

The Handcrafted Holidays guide serves as a free platform that offers low investment-high return advertising to our local artists and acts as a single source for online shoppers who want handmade gifts, high quality art, and to support their local economy. Due to COVID-19, summer art festivals and holiday craft shows were cancelled. This stunted opportunities for both buyers and sellers, yet the demand for locally crafted goods remains high. This online guide will help bridge the gap left by the loss of in-person interaction this holiday season.

The guide is open to all art forms, including fine art, music, literary art, lessons, and anything else that may offer a product/service for purchase. Please note that this guide is solely an advertising resource and artists are responsible for their own selling platform and products. Artist submissions will be compiled and shared the first week of December via an interactive pdf that will be widely advertised, shared by local artist groups, and made freely available to the public.

Construction at Founders Landing has started for the new pier project. Effective immediately, the boardwalk at Founders Landing and the City multi-use path between Spring Street and the trail intersection near the Lakeshore Boulevard and US 41 intersection will be closed to through traffic. The closure is required to accommodate construction work on the City South Pier project and for building construction at the Two Marquette Place development.Multi-use path traffic will be detoured around this area by means of the sidewalk along Front Street/US 41.
