Front and Crescent Street Closure Due to Sewer Extension Project

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Smith Construction Inc. will

be closing Front Street between Prospect Street and Park Street, and Crescent Street between High Street and Third Street to through traffic.  Sanitary sewer mains are being extended near the intersection of Crescent and Front. The underground phase of the work is anticipated to be completed by the end of July, with restoration and asphalt paving to follow. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained throughout the project area. Residents within the closure area will receive information from Smith Construction regarding potential utility disruptions, parking, and driveway access.

The public is urged to take caution and follow all traffic control measures.

Memorial Weekend Compost and Rubbish Site Closures

The Compost drop-off site located at 1415 Pioneer Rd., will be closed Saturday, May 25 and the Household Rubbish site will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.  The Compost site will reopen Tuesday, May 28, 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and the Household Rubbish site will reopen Wednesday, May 29, 3:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. or when capacity is met.

Summer Park Hours

City of Marquette official summer park hours begin Tuesday, May 28.  Summer hours are 7 a.m. to 11p.m. daily. 

The seasonal portion of Peter White Drive in Presque Isle Park is open during park hours with the exception of closure for walking hours on the following days and times:

  • Monday and Wednesdays:      6 p.m. to park close.
  • Tuesday and Thursday:           7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday:             7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

A reminder, except for Tourist Park campsites, no camping or overnight parking is permitted in City parks.

City of Marquette, Summer Hours

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be moving to summer hours beginning Monday, June 3, 2024. Summer hours will continue through Labor Day.

  • Monday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: Closed

City of Marquette Offices Closed for Memorial Day

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.  Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time.

There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.

Reminder: May 28 City Commission Meeting on a Tuesday

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the upcoming regular meeting of the Marquette City Commission will be held on Tuesday, May 28.  The meeting will take place in City Commission Chambers at City Hall, and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

As a reminder, most City offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

Draft Community Master Plan Release - Public Comment Period

At their meeting on May 13, the Marquette City Commission authorized the distribution of a Draft
Community Master Plan (CMP) that has been under development since early 2023. The Draft CMP
is now available to view online, from the City of Marquette’s homepage – www.marquettemi.gov.
Public comments may also be provided through a link found on the City’s homepage.


The public comment period runs from Friday, May 17 to Thursday, July 18.


Physical copies of the Draft CMP may also be viewed at City Hall (300 W. Baraga Ave.), the
Municipal Service Center (1100 Wright St.), and at the Peter White Public Library (217 N. Front
St.). Public comment forms will be attached to the Draft CMP copies for those who wish to provide
written comments.


The City of Marquette encourages all interested parties to view the Draft CMP and provide
comments on the contents, and particularly would like city residents, business and property owners
to provide input on the Draft CMP that planners, advisory boards, and decision makers may find
valuable for determining the accuracy of the contents and information provided, as well as in
consideration of their opinions on the recommendations contained in the Draft CMP.
