Summer tax bills totaling approximately $40.2 million dollars will be mailed to Marquette City property owners on June 30. The due date for payment of City summer taxes is September 14, 2023.
Tax collection begins July 1, 2023 and payments are accepted without interest through September 14, 2023 at the City Treasurer’s office or online (fees apply) at www.marquettemi.gov. Interest of 1% is added to the summer tax bill on September 15 and on the 15 of every following month.
The 2023 summer property tax bill represents millage levies for the City of Marquette, Library, Senior Millage, DDA, Marquette Public Schools, State Education, Marquette-Alger RESA, County Operating, and Iron Ore Heritage Authority.
As a reminder City Hall will be closed in observation of Independence Day Monday, July 3 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and Tuesday, July 4.
Beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, Washington Street from McClellan Avenue to Third Street and Third Street from Washington Street to Baraga Avenue will be closed to through traffic to hold the annual Fourth of July Parade. Third and Washington Streets are scheduled to re-open as soon as the parade is completed.
McClellan Avenue from Baraga Avenue to Ridge Street and areas on Baraga Avenue east and west of McClellan Avenue along with east and west of Third Street will be closed for parade staging starting at 10:00 a.m. These areas will open to traffic as soon as the parade is completed.
North Front Street will remain open as an emergency vehicle route.
In observance of Independence Day, the City of Marquette Compost and Household Rubbish drop-off site located at 1415 Pioneer Road, will be closed July 1-4.
The Household Rubbish drop-off site will reopen Wednesday, July 5from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. or until capacity. The Compost drop-off site will reopen Saturday, July 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
West Washington Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Front Street and Third Street from 2:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Wednesday between June 28, 2023 and August 30, 2023 for the Marquette DDA Wednesday Farmers Market. Street parking will be prohibited on the 100 block of West Washington after 2:30 p.m. on the days of the closures.

The community is invited to participate in a Founder’s Landing Piers Ribbon Cutting Ceremony held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Founders Landing South Pier.
The ceremony will feature presentations from City officials and contractors involved in the completion of the piers, as well as a special performance by the Marquette City Band.
The Noquemanon Trail Network (NTN) will be hosting biking and running events Friday, June 23through Sunday, June 25. The Mount Marquette roadway will be closed to vehicular traffic Saturday through Sunday at 2:00 p.m. for these events.
City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will close at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Monday, July 3, and will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time.
There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.
Waldo Street will be closed to through traffic between Lynn Avenue and Birch Avenue for a sanitary sewer lateral replacement. The project will take place on Tuesday, June 20 from 7 a.m. to the end of the day.
West Washington Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Front Street and Third Street from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Wednesday between June 21, 2023 and August 30, 2023 for the Marquette DDA Wednesday Farmers Market. Street parking will be prohibited on the 100 block of West Washington after 2:30 p.m. on the days of the closures.
