Memorial Weekend Compost and Rubbish Site Closures

The Compost drop-off site located at 1415 Pioneer Rd., will be closed Saturday, May 29 and the Household Rubbish site will be closed Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day.  The Compost site will reopen Tuesday, June 1, and the Household Rubbish site will reopen Wednesday, June 2.  

June 2 Ad-Hoc Housing Committee Special Meeting: Participation Details

A Special Meeting of theAd-Hoc Housing Committee will be held virtually at 9:00 a.m. on June 2, 2021 with board members and Staff attending remotely. The purpose of the Special Meeting is to review and comment on the Committee Draft Final Report. This meeting will be streamed on the City of Marquette YouTube channel, at https://www.youtube.com/user/CityofMarquetteGov. Please note that the YouTube livestream will have at least a 20 second delay, and that anyone that wishes to offer public comment via Zoom (directions are provided below) will need to open the livestream to follow along while they wait to enter the meeting.

100 Block W. Washington Street Closure

Washington Street between Third Street and Front Street is scheduled to be closed to traffic on Thursday May 27, beginning at 7:00 a.m. to accommodate streetscape construction work.  A detour route will be provided.  The roadway closure is expected to last until June 19.  Weather delays could affect the duration of the closure. 

Pedestrian access to businesses and residences will be kept available.

The City of Marquette asks you for your patience during the construction process. 

Police and Fire Retirement System Meeting: Participation Details

The May 25, 2021 Police & Fire Retirement System meeting will be held electronically in an effort to protect the health and safety of the public.

City of Marquette Offices Closed for Memorial Day

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day.  Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time

Following the Memorial Day holiday, City offices will be open to the public, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.

May 24 City Commission Meeting: Participation Details

Due to directives from the State of Michigan, the May 24 City Commission meeting will be held at City Hall without the public in physical attendance. The public is invited to view and participate in the meeting electronically.

The meeting will be streamed on YouTube and Channel 191 starting at 6 p.m. The YouTube channel is located at www.youtube.com/user/CityofMarquetteGov. Please note that the livestreams may have at least a 20 second delay.

City Park Hours

The City of Marquette’s official park hours are 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Thursday, May 20 through Thursday, May 27.

Summer park hours of 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. will begin on Friday, May 28, 2021. Please note, there is no camping or overnight parking allowed in any City park. The back loop of Peter White Drive on Presque Isle Park is open during park hours except for the closure for walking hours. The back loop is closed to vehicular traffic:

Monday & Wednesday: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday & Thursday: 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday: 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

New Glass Recycle Drop Off Location

A glass recycle drop off container has been placed behind the Waste Management Transfer Station located at 910 W. Baraga Avenue. City of Marquette residents may drop off recyclable glass during open business hours, Monday – Friday 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. They are closed 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. for lunch.

Curbside glass only recycle collection is being conducted the first full collection week of each month. Please place your glass in a hard-walled container next to your garbage and it will be collected on your scheduled pick up day. Recycle not placed in a hard-walled container will not be collected. Mixed recycle will not be collected.

No other recyclables will be collected that week. The remainder of the month will be dedicated to the single stream recycle collection only. A glass collection schedule is available on the City of Marquette website www.marquettemi.gov  and container stickers may be picked up at the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street and City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue.

Garbage collection schedule and times remain the same.
