Division Street- Overhead Electrical Line Maintenance

Beginning at 8:00 A.M. Friday, May 27th, 2022 Division St between

Craig St and Mesnard St will be closed. A detour will be set up during the closure.   

The maintenance project is estimated to last 1 day and will only be closed between 8 A.M. and 4 P.M..  For your safety and the safety of our employees and contractors, please do not approach crews while they are working.  The tasks that they perform put them near energized equipment where the outmost focus and concentration is necessary.

We understand that our activities may cause an inconvenience and want to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation while we perform these modifications and upgrades.

Center Street and McClellan Ave Disruptions

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, Oberstar, Inc. will be proceeding with sanitary sewer service line replacements on Center Street between Wilkinson Avenue and Presque Isle Avenue. The sanitary lateral work is expected to last two weeks. This work will be done with intermittent road closures to through traffic and detours.

Oberstar will also begin removing and replacing sections of curb on McClellan Avenue between Ridge Street and Cleveland Avenue. Through traffic will be maintained.

This work is a prerequisite for the resurfacing of these streets. The public is urged to use extreme caution and follow all traffic control measures. Additional announcements will be forthcoming for resurfacing activities.

Call for Entries - Summer City Hall Art Exhibit: Inspired by Water

City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture is excited to announce a call for entries for the Summer City Hall Community Exhibit: Inspired by Water. Local artists are invited to submit a ready to hang art piece inspired by water. Eligibility
Non-juried, all ages. All artwork must be ready to hang on the wall with wire or loop hanger (no sawtooth). One entry per person. All artwork must be inspired by Water

Artwork can be dropped off at City Hall (300 W Baraga) on Thursday June 16th between 10am and 5pm. Exhibit will be up June 20-September 29.

City of Marquette Recognized for Environmental Leadership

The City of Marquette has been recognized for environmental leadership by the statewide Michigan Green Communities program. As part of the 2021 Michigan Green Communities (MGC) Challenge, 44 participating local governments were awarded gold, silver, or bronze seals of achievement reflecting community leadership in areas such as energy efficiency, climate adaptation and resilience, recycling, environmental justice, and more. Ten communities received bronze certification, twelve received silver certification, and twenty-two received gold certification.

The City of Marquette achieved gold status for exemplary action across multiple categories, including planning, economic development, land use, climate resilience, climate adaptation, energy efficiency, renewable energy, materials management (AKA recycling, composting, waste diversion), and water conservation and protection.

The Michigan Green Communities (MGC) program is open to all local governments in Michigan, at no cost. MGC is a sustainability networking, benchmarking, and technical assistance program. It guides and supports communities in adapting to a changing climate, protecting infrastructure, improving the quality of life for residents, and creating a more environmentally and economically sustainable future for the state of Michigan.

Michigan Green Communities is supported by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy; the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services; the Michigan Economic Development Corporation; the Michigan Association of Counties; the Michigan Municipal League; and the Michigan Townships Association. 100 Block of West Washington Street Westbound Lane Closure

On Tuesday May 24, from 6:00a.m. to 8:00a.m., the westbound lane in front of 136 West Washington Street will be closed for construction activities. Flag control will be used to direct traffic around the closure area.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

City of Marquette Offices Closed for Memorial Day

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.  Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time

There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.
