The Marquette Board of Light and Power Board will be holding a working session on Wednesday, May 4, at 5:30 p.m. The topic of discussion will be the property at 400 E. Hampton St. (former site of the Shiras Steam Plant.) The meeting will be held at the main office of the Marquette Board of Light & Power, 2200 Wright St, Marquette, MI 49855. City of Marquette athletic fields remain closed due to melting snow, dormant grass and soft turf. Please do not use City soccer fields or ball fields to avoid further damage. Kaufman fields and parking are closed. An announcement will be made when athletic fields are open for use.
Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library. The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Friday, April 15, in observance of Good Friday. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time.
There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.
The Marquette City Planning Commission meeting originally scheduled for April 5, 2022 has been moved to April 12 due to the coincidence with the Spring Break week in the Marquette Area Public Schools district.
SPRING STREET CLOSURE – FRONT STREET TO THIRD STREET
Beginning at 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 8 and continuing through 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, Spring Street will be closed to motor vehicles between Front Street and Third Street for the Festival of the Angry Bear sponsored by the Ore Dock Brewing Company.
Egress from the MarqTran drive through and the Marquette History Museum will be available at the west end of Spring Street.
The City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture presents Signs of Spring, a new community art exhibit in City Hall. Signs of Spring features artwork by new, emerging, and professional local artists inspired by the Blue Spotted Salamander and other subtle signs of spring. The community is invited to vote for your favorite. Awards for Popular Vote, City Manager’s Choice and First Place will be presented at a City Commission meeting in May. The exhibit will be on display from April 1 through June 10 and is open to the public during normal business hours, Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:30pm. City Hall is located at 300 West Baraga Avenue.
Signs of Spring is part of Salamander Days, an awareness campaign presented by the City of Marquette, Superior Watershed Partnership, and other local organizations and individuals in the Marquette community supporting the migration of the Blue Spotted Salamander on Presque Isle Park. In addition to the exhibit, a variety of themed arts and science programming will be presented by partners throughout the month of April.
