Opening Receptions for PWPL and DEO Galleries

On Thursday, August 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the Peter White Public Library and the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture will be hosting the opening receptions for the three art galleries within the walls of PWPL. The Deo Gallery is owned by the City of Marquette and is located in the basement of the PWPL in the City’s Arts & Culture Center; it is curated monthly by the Lake Superior Art Association. The Deo Gallery’s exhibit will be up through August 31. PWPL galleries’ exhibits will be up until September 10. Receptions are free and open to the public.

EXHIBITS:

The Deo Gallery: Taimur Cleary, Practice as Prism
Paintings, Prints, and Photography inspired by the abstract and fine details of scenery and the natural world. Artist Talk at 7:00 p.m.

Huron Mountain Club Gallery (Main floor): Katherine Sirvio, From Where I Stand

Mixed Media inspired by her serene natural surroundings and the sharp edges of the world within it.

Lower Level Lobby Gallery (Outside the Deo Gallery): Sarah Reynolds, Flora

Paintings and illustrations that explore volume and abstracts of human bodies that reflect configurations found in the organic.

Reminder for everyone regarding the NTN Marquette South TrailheadThe South Trails Trailhead is closed due to construction, including the pump track and bathroom. Temporary parking is located at the end of Pioneer Road (West side) in a lot (to the right as you drive in) between the first and second gate (see the map).Why the closure? Curbside brush collection will be conducted April 22 - 26. The brush volume from each property is limited to one pickup load, a pile approx. 12’L x 6’W x 5’H.Crews will collect loose or brown bagged leaves April 29 – May 10. Street sweeping and sand pickup will be conducted during leaf collection dates for all residential routes. The City will not collect material after the last date listed for each route.The composting drop-off site located at 1415 Pioneer Rd. is opening April 20 for the season. It is open Tuesdays 3pm – 7pm and Saturdays 9am – 1pm. Any yard waste will be accepted but brush will be limited to one pickup load per day. “Solid Waste” fee payment on a City water bill and ID is required for admittance.The Household Rubbish site will open April 22. It is open Mondays and Wednesdays 3pm – 7pm and the second Saturday of each month 1pm – 4pm. Extra days have been added to the first two weeks to assist with spring cleaning. Thursday, April 25, Saturday, April 27, and Thursday, May 2. The regular schedule will begin May 6.
