Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, August 9 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side). The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
Beginning Thursday August 3, 2023, West Hampton Street will be closed between Adams Street and Division Street and work will be occurring on the shoulder of Division Street between Furnace Street and Genesee Street. SEMCO Energy will be completing gas main work in this area. The work is anticipated to last two weeks.
The public is advised to take caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.
The southbound lane of Front Street between Main Street and Spring Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the day Wednesday August 2. Southbound traffic will be detoured around the closure via Main Street, Third Street, and Baraga Avenue. Northbound traffic on Front Street will remain unaffected. To ensure safe working conditions the sidewalk and parking lane in front of site will remain closed for the duration of the underground construction work.
The public is advised to take caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.
Starting the week of July 31, the forestry department will begin pruning along school routes and major streets for vehicle clearance.
The City of Marquette Compost drop-off site, located at 1415 Pioneer Road will be closed on Tuesday, August 1. The Compost site will resume normal hours on Saturday, August 5.

On Thursday, August 10, from 6-8 p.m. the Peter White Public Library (PWPL) and the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture will be hosting the opening receptions for the three art galleries within the walls of PWPL. The Deo Gallery is owned by the City of Marquette and is located in the lower level of the PWPL in the City’s Arts & Culture Center; it is supported by the Lake Superior Art Association. Light refreshments provided. Receptions are free and open to the public. Exhibits will be on display August 1 through the end of September.

The Marquette City Planning Commission meeting originally scheduled for August 1, 2023, has been canceled due to lack of business. The next schedule meeting is August 15, 2023.
The Open/Public skating session scheduled for Saturday, July 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. has been canceled.
Spring Street between Third Street and Front Street will be closed from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 29, for the Queen City Half Marathon.
Spring Street from Front Street through Lakeshore Boulevard will also be closed, and Lakeshore Boulevard and Front Street will both be closed to through traffic between Main Street and Baraga Avenue from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The course heads south on the City multiuse path, turns around near South Beach Park and continues north following the path to Presque Isle Park. Runners will run around Peter White Drive and return on the path, head west on Hawley street following the path to Wright Street, then Washington Street and back to the finish area on Spring Street.
Motorists are advised to use caution at road crossings and to be alert for runners and road crossing attendants.
