Beginning on Thursday July 17, 2025, Lakeshore Boulevard between Baraga Avenue and US41 will be closed to southbound through traffic between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Southbound traffic will be detoured around the site by means of Front Street/ US41.The purpose of this closure is to accommodate work on the Marquette Cultural Center and Cultural Trail project. It is anticipated that this work will be completed within one week
North Third Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Arch Street and Kaye Avenue from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday July 17, 2025, for the Marquette DDA’s Music on Third Event. The Third Street and Hewitt Avenue intersection will remain open to east-west traffic. Signed detour routes will be provided around the closures.
After the recent rain event, elevated levels of bacteria, specifically E. coli, have been detected at the Tourist Park swimming beach in Marquette, MI. The beach is closed to swimming until further notice.
The City of Marquette is collecting water samples daily and will reopen the beach to swimming when State water quality standards are met.
All other beaches remain open. Signs have been posted at Tourist Park.
Beginning on Monday, July 14, visitor traffic at Presque Isle Park will be impacted due to a sewer and water installation project related to the new bandshell. The park will remain open to visitors during the project, which is expected to be completed by Friday, July 25.
The Marquette Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors will be holding a special meeting on Thursday, July 31, 2025 to review the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget. The special meeting will take place at the Marquette Commons, 112 South Third Street, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
The Marquette City Planning Commission meetings originally scheduled for July 15, 2025, and August 5, 2025, have been canceled due to a lack of business.
The Marquette City Clerk’s Office is accepting nomination packets for city elective positions available in the upcoming election year. Interested candidates must submit their completed packets by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22.
This election cycle, voters will select one member for the Marquette Board of Light and Power and two commissioners for the Marquette City Commission. These positions will be contested in the General Election on November 4, 2025.
Nominating documents, including petition forms, are available for collection at the City Clerk’s Office located at 300 W. Baraga Avenue. Alternatively, candidates may download the forms at www.marquettemi.gov/candidatefilings.
Per the eligibility requirements of the Marquette City Charter, each candidate must have been a registered voter of the City of Marquette for at least one year prior to filing and may not be in default to the City
The Marquette City Commission will conduct a work session on Friday, July 11 to discuss the Strategic Plan. The work session will begin at 9 a.m. at the Presque Isle Pavilion, located at the Presque Isle Park, 3 Peter White Drive.
The Presque Isle Park time capsule will be buried on Tuesday, July 8 at 1:00 p.m. in its former location near the deer yard in Presque Isle Park immediately across from the Superior Watershed Partnership offices.
The large time capsule will be reburied in its original location in Presque Isle Park with contents contributed from multiple community groups.
The public is invited to the park to view the burial.
The July 22, 2025, meeting of the Marquette Housing Commission has been rescheduled to July 15, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room at 316 Pine Street.
