Temporary Yard Signs

Residents and Political Parties are reminded that Yard Signs in the City of Marquette are subject to Article 11 of the City of Marquette Land Development Code.

Yard Signs are permitted on private property only and may not be placed in a street right of way (generally defined as between the curb and a sidewalk or 10 feet from the curb).

The Community Development Department has received several complaints regarding these signs being placed within City Street right of ways. These signs have been removed by the City Code Enforcement Official and are kept at Municipal Service Center (1100 Wright Street).

Those wishing to recover signs may contact the Community Development Department.

Fall Leaf Collection Placement

As fall brush and leaf cleanup preparations begin, please remember not to place leaves in the road or along the curb line. This causes leaves to collect in the storm drains and creates flooding in the streets. This sediment is also entering the storm drain system with the potential of plugging the storm water main.

Leaves must be placed behind the curb line, not in the street. Residents not complying will be in violation of Section 38-22(c) of the Marquette City Code. We are also reminding motorists to avoid parking in positions that block access to leaf piles, or they will not be picked up.

The schedule is as follows:

Brush Collection: October 21 – 25

Leaf Collection: October 28 – November 8

Please visit the City of Marquette website www.marquettemi.gov for further information.

Rubbish/Compost Drop Off Site Update

The compost and brush drop-off site will continue to be open on Tuesdays from

3 PM – dusk and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The tentative closing date for the season is Tuesday, November 5, weather permitting.

The site will reopen in the spring and a new schedule will be posted at that time.

Jordan Demay 5k Run/Walk

The Jordan Demay 5k run/walk will be held Sunday, October 6th, beginning at 10:00am. The event will start at the Lakeview Arena/YMCA parking lot and follow the multi-use path along Pine Street to Lakeshore Boulevard and then north along Lakeshore Boulevard to a point just north of the Dead River.

No streets will be closed; however, motorists are asked to take caution in this area and to be alert for runners crossing the street.

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, October 9 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side).  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
