City of Marquette Offices Closed for Memorial Day

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time. There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.

Marquette Art Tour Event

Marquette Art Tour returns on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Galleries and studios showcase work from more than 150 local and regional artists. This self-guided tour offers an exciting day of art exploration, live demonstrations, pop-up artist appearances, and more. Printed guides to participating locations are available at Travel Marquette, the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Office, the Peter White Public Library, and local galleries. Street Disruptions Due to Crack Sealing Activities

Beginning on Monday, May 12, 2025 various streets in the City of Marquette will experience traffic disruptions due to crack sealing activities by Fahrner Asphalt Sealers. The public is advised to be aware of all flagging and traffic control devices and to use caution when traveling through areas requiring this process. It is anticipated that this work will be completed within two weeks.

Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side). The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

Baraga Avenue Closure

Beginning on Monday May 12, 2025, Baraga Avenue between Altamont Street and Fifth Street will be closed to through traffic for water and sewer service installation at 412 West Baraga Avenue. The work is expected to be completed on Wednesday May 14. A signed detour route will be provided around the closure and access to homes on Baraga will be maintained. The public is advised to take caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

Sidewalk Repair Project

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025, work will begin on a city-wide sidewalk repair project.

This project will include the repair of trip hazards, ADA compliance improvements, and the abandonment of coal bunkers under the sidewalk at the northeast corner of Washington Street and Third Street. Temporary lane shifts and parking disruptions will be required to complete this project. Sidewalk removal areas will be clearly marked with construction cones to warn pedestrians. Impacted businessowners and homeowners will be individually notified by the contractor.

Associated Constructors is the general contractor for this project.

Please take caution when traveling through construction areas and to be alert for advisory signage

Saturday, May 10 – North Main Street Parking Lot
Tuesday, May 13 – Lakeshore Parking Lot

Annual High School Art Exhibit Reception Event

On Thursday, May 15, 6:00-8:00 p.m., the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture invites the community to an evening of celebrating our community’s young visual artists.


The Annual High School Art Show will be on display for the month of May in the Deo Gallery and will feature a large body of work created by art students enrolled in Negaunee, Marquette, Gwinn and Ishpeming High Schools.


The reception event will feature light refreshments and a presentation of awards at 7:00 p.m. Receptions are free and open to the public. Exhibits are accessible during regular Library hours and will be on display through the end of May.


The Deo Gallery is located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library (217 N Front St) in the City’s Arts & Culture Center; it is supported by the Lake Superior Art Association.
