Street closures for Noquemanon Ski Marathon

The following streets will be closed on Saturday, January 24 from 3:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the Noquemanon Ski Marathon.

  1. Hawley Street, from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard.
  2. Wright Street, from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard.
  3. Schneider Mill Court, from River Park Circle to end of Schneider Mill Court.
  4. Powder Mill Road, from Wright Street to end of Powder Mill Road.

The detour route to access Lakeshore Boulevard from Hawley Street and Wright Street will be Presque Isle Avenue south to Fair Avenue, then Fair Avenue east to Lakeshore Boulevard.

January 21 MBRA meeting canceled

The regular meeting of the City of Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Board has been cancelled for January 21, 2026 due to a lack of agenda items. The meetings are held at 9:00 a.m. at the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, Marquette, MI. 49855 on the third Wednesday of each month.

Christmas tree drop-off sites

The City of Marquette offers two Christmas tree drop-off sites:

  • Site one is located at the west end of Lakeview Arena parking lot, 401 E Fair Ave. Place tree inside orange fencing.
  • Site two is located at Hurley Field, 240 Mesnard St. Place tree inside orange fencing.

The Christmas tree drop-off sites are available through January 18, 2026. Residents are to remove all decorations and stands before disposing of their tree.

Properties paying the “Solid Waste” fee on their monthly bills are eligible to use the Christmas tree drop-off sites.  Owners and tenants of properties not paying the fee should contact their regular waste hauler for service.  These sites are supported by fees, not taxes.

Marquette city manager community office hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, January 14, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side).  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

Tourist Park and off-leash area closed

Due to significant storm damage, including multiple fallen trees and widespread debris, Tourist Park is closed to the public until further notice. City crews are currently assessing the area and working to remove hazards to ensure the park can be safely reopened.

For everyone’s safety, we ask visitors to avoid the park during this time. We will provide updates as cleanup progresses and will reopen the park as soon as conditions allow.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to restore the park.

Lakeview Arena remains closed

Due to mechanical issues affecting the ice surface Lakeview Arena in the City of Marquette remains closed today, Friday January 2, 2026.

Staff are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.
