U.P. 200 & Midnight Run Dog Sled Races Street Closures

The following streets will be closed to motor vehicles at the following times for the start of the Annual U.P. 200 & Midnight Run Dog Sled Races to be held Friday, February 14th.

Thursday, February 13th

10:30 p.m. - Washington Street from Front Street to Lakeshore Boulevard

Friday, February 14th

5:00 a.m. - Washington Street from Front Street to Sixth Street.

7:00 a.m. – Fifth Street from Spring Street to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic).

7:00 a.m. - Fourth Street from Spring Street to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic).

1:00 p.m. - Lakeshore Boulevard from Mattson Park to Baraga Avenue (closed to through traffic)

5:00 p.m. - Lakeshore Boulevard from Baraga Avenue to U.S. 41 (closed to through traffic)

5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. - The northbound lane of S. Lake Street from U.S. 41 to Hampton Street

5:15 p.m. - Front Street from Baraga Avenue to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic)

5:45 p.m. - Third Street from Spring Street to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic)

A detour route around the closure areas will use Baraga Avenue, Seventh Street, and Bluff Street.

The street closures will remain in effect until 4:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15th.

Pedestrian access will be allowed all days throughout all the street closure areas.

City of Marquette Offices closed for Presidents' Day

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Monday, February 17, in observance of Presidents’ Day. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time. 

There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.

Promotional Fund and Discount Fee Waiver Applications

The City of Marquette provides under City Code, Chapter 2 Administration, Division 3 Finance, Public Relations; Section 2-522 Policies and Procedures a mechanism for community stakeholders to submit for waiver of City fees and/or in-kind services provided by the City and/or cash payments. Requests for Promotional Funds may include grant funding, fee relief, provision of in-kind City services, cash or a combination of any or all of these items.

Applications for Fiscal Year 2025-2026, October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026, must be received or postmarked by March 31, 2025. Any applications received or postmarked after this date will NOT be eligible for consideration. It is important to note all applications may not be funded. Funding will depend upon City priorities and available dollars. Outdoor Ice Rinks Open to the Public

Effective immediately, the City of Marquette’s outdoor ice rinks are open to the public. The ice rinks are located in the north Marquette ball field area on Presque Isle Avenue, in the field on Spring and 7th Street, and a new site located inside Tourist Park. The rinks are open until 11:00 p.m. nightly, and porta john facilities will be available at all sites.

The ice rinks will remain open as long as the weather permits.

Maquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, January 8 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side).  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
