North Third Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Arch Street and Ohio Street and again between Park Street and College Avenue from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2024, for the Marquette DDA’s Music on Third Event. Signed detour routes will be provided around the closures.

On Saturday, September 21, the Marji Gesick 50-mile mountain bike race will be starting on Lakeshore Boulevard between Washington Street and Spring Street. Riders will head south to the Carp River bridge by means of Lakeshore Boulevard, the City multi-use path and Lake Street. Riders will continue under the bridge to Cliffs Power Road, Mount Marquette Road, and onto NTN trails.
Between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed between Spring Street and Washington Street, and closed to through traffic between Washington Street and Ridge Street. Traffic will be detoured via Spring Street, Front Street and Ridge Street. Police officers will be directing traffic on Lakeshore Boulevard; however, Lake Street, Cliffs Power Road and Mount Marquette Road will remain open to traffic.
Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for police officers directing traffic and detour signage.

Beginning on Monday September 23, Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic between Fair Avenue and Pine Street. Traffic will be detoured around the closure along Fair Avenue and Pine Street. The multi-use path will remain open.
The purpose of the closure is to accommodate beach sand nourishment that is part of ongoing shoreline restoration work. The closure is expected to last one week.
he start and duration of the closure could change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
The public is advised to pay attention to detour and warning signage.

The City of Marquette Fire Department will be participating in the annual “Fill the Boot” fundraising drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Members of the Fire Department will be raising funds Thursday, September 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, September 20 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the intersections of McClellan and Cleveland, Third and Hewitt, and Front and Arch.
These street intersections will be open to traffic and motorists are asked to exercise caution.

The September meeting of the City of Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Board has been scheduled to meet on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.The meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, Marquette, MI. 49855. This meeting will replace the regularly scheduled September meeting that would have taken place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

On Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture and Marquette Public Art Commission will be hosting a FREE professional development workshop at Northern Michigan University Art & Design Building, room AD165. How to Thrive as a Public Artist welcomes professional artists, arts administrators, educators, and advocates seeking to enhance their skills and advance their careers in the public art sector.
The free workshop will be led by Brian Wignall, whose diverse portfolio includes sculptures, murals, and multimedia projects featured around the world, and who was selected by the Marquette Public Art Commission to create the Dragonfly sculpture for Mattson Park Kids Cove playground. Also presenting during the workshop will be award-winning motivational author Julie Wignall.
Key topics include:
Finding Your Niche: Refining artist statements and portfolios
Writing the Proposal: Crafting compelling letters of interest, developing visual concepts,finding fabricators, cost estimation, insurance, and managing fabrication and delivery timelines.

-Drop-In Hockey Monday-Friday 11:30am-12:50pm

-Drop-In Hockey (evening, age 18+) Thursday 9:30pm-11:00pm

-Public Skate (all ages) Monday-Sunday 1:00-2:50pm

-Senior/Adult Skate (55 & older) Friday 7:00-8:30pm begins October 4th

(Free to Marquette City, Marquette Township, Chocolay Township, and Powell Township senior residents. Some dates excluded: see Marquette Senior Center for schedule.)
