Intermittent Presque Isle road closure planned during salamander migration

In cooperation with the Superior Watershed Partnership and Northern Michigan University Biology Department, the City of Marquette will be closing a portion of Peter White Drive in Presque Isle Park to facilitate the safe migration of the blue-spotted salamander.

The southwest bend of Peter White Drive, from Moosewood Nature Center to the gate north of the pavilion, will close to vehicular traffic daily at 8 p.m. from March 21 to April 30, or until the completion of the migration. Road barricades will be placed and removed daily to prevent vehicular traffic use of the migration area. Foot traffic is permitted in the area during regular park hours.

Marquette Arts & Culture Office Closed for Staff Professional Development

MARQUETTE ARTS & CULTURE OFFICE CLOSED FOR STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Office of Arts & Culture will be closed Wednesday, March 23 for City staff professional development. Staff will be attending the U.P. Arts and Culture Alliance Board Meeting, the Michigan Arts and Culture Council grant training workshop, and the UPACA public reception all held at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce. The Arts & Culture staff will check the arts-culture@marquettemi.gov email periodically throughout the day for immediate needs and will respond to phone messages the following day, Thursday, March 24. The Deo Gallery and Studio Spaces will remain open according to Peter White Public Library hours.

Seasonal Launch Permits

Beginning March 15, the City of Marquette will require all boaters to obtain a launch permit to launch a boat at either Cinder Pond or Presque Isle Marina.

Seasonal launch permits are available for purchase at Lakeview Arena Parks & Recreation office, located at 401 E. Fair Avenue, the City of Marquette’s Treasurer’s office located at 300 W. Baraga Avenue.  Seasonal launch permits will also be available at Cinder Pond Marina office beginning May 9.  The cost is $60.00 per seasonal launch permit, and $15.00 for an additional launch permit (restrictions apply).

Daily launch permits are $6.00 and are available in the red launch boxes located at Cinder Pond and Presque Isle Marina.

Planning Commission Meeting Canceled; Joint Work Session Scheduled

The Marquette City Planning Commission meeting scheduled for March 15, has been canceled due to lack of business for the agenda. The Marquette City Commission and the Planning Commission will conduct a joint work session on the same date beginning at 5:30 PM in the first-floor conference room of the Municipal Service Center, located at 1100 Wright Street. The Planning Commission will present its annual report to the City Commission at this meeting, in addition to discussing community planning concerns for this year and beyond.

Marquette Public Art Commission Meeting

The Marquette Public Art Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be in-person in the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front Street, Marquette.

Public Participation

There will be one public comment period for the meeting, at the beginning of the agenda. Comments are limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address before speaking. Written comments will be presented to the board during the meeting and can be submitted by emailing tmorin@marquettemi.gov. Written submissions will be accepted until 5pm on Wednesday, March 9.

March DDA Meeting Announcement

A regular meeting of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors will be held Thursday, March 10, at the Marquette Commons, 112 South Third Street. The meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m.

Public Participation

There will be two options for public participation in this meeting: in person or written. Written comments can be submitted by emailing Becky@downtownmarquette.org. Written submissions will be accepted until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9.
