City Manager offers community office hours

Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli will hold his next community office hours on Wednesday,
October 11, from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library. The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

Oct. 7 Run 4 Lakeview will be crossing City streets

On Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing through 12:30 p.m. there will be a 5k race running along the multi-use path and crossing City streets.

The Run 4 Lakeview starts at Lakeview Arena then heads east on the sidewalk on Fair Avenue before crossing Lakeshore Boulevard and proceeding south on the multi-use pathway. The course continues south on the multi-use pathway to a turnaround at Mattson Park. The course then returns toward Lakeview Arena, going past Lakeview Arena to Pine Street before returning to Lakeview Arena.

No roads will be closed; however, volunteers will be stopping cars at road crossings and the public is asked to be aware of volunteers and runners.

Halloween Spectacle set for Oct. 28

The City of Marquette’s annual Halloween Spectacle is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28. An alchemy of pageantry, music, theater, and dance will ignite the 600 block of West Bluff Street, behind Harlow Park, between North Seventh and Morgan Streets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A special opening procession will take place on the 100 block of West Washington Street at 6 p.m, directly following downtown trick or treating. The sidewalk procession will travel down Washington to Harlow Park. The Spectacle is free and open to all ages.

Harlow Park provides the perfect back drop for this year’s Spectacle. Equipped with built-in hillside “bleachers,” to enjoy performances. Bring a blanket or tarp for your seat at the year’s most anticipated performance. This year’s theme is the four elements. Don your costume and join the queens of Earth, Water, Air and Fire.

Lakeview Arena’s public skating season begins

Public skating sessions at the City’s Lakeview Arena begin Oct. 2. The program hours are as follows:

  • Drop-In Figure Skating
    • Monday-Friday from 9 to 9:50 a.m.
  • Preschool/Parent & Senior Citizens
    • Monday-Friday from 10 to 11:20 a.m.
  • Drop-In Hockey
    • Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
  • Public Skate (all ages)
    • Monday-Sunday from 1 to 2:50 p.m.
  • Senior/Adult Skate (18 & older) – (Free to Marquette City Senior Residents with ID)
    • Monday from 7:30 to 9:20 p.m.
  • Adult Drop-In Hockey
    • Monday from 9:30 to 10:50 p.m.

Off Leash Park Area Permits Now Available

Off-Leash Park Permits are now available for purchase at the City Clerk’s office, 300 W. Baraga
Avenue. Per animal, a permit costs $15 for City of Marquette residents, and $20 for non-residents. The park is open Nov. 1 through May 1 and is located at the Tourist Park area. Proof of a current dog license is required.

The City Clerk, along with most local veterinarians sell dog licenses, as does the Marquette County Clerk. To purchase a license, you will need a paper copy of a current rabies certification from your veterinarian.

Due to Executive Orders issued from the Office of the Governor, the July 27 City Commission meeting will be held without the public in physical attendance. The public is invited to view and participate in the meeting electronically.
The meeting will be streamed on Channel 191 and YouTube starting at 6 p.m. Please note that the livestreams may have at least a 20 second delay.

Public Participation
There will be two options for public participation in the meetings: phone conferencing or written comment. There will be two public comment periods during each meeting, one at the beginning and one at the end. Comments will be limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address. Written comments will be limited to 500 words. Written comments can be submitted directly to shobbins@marquettemi.gov, written submissions will be accepted until 12 p.m. on Monday, July 27.
