Christmas Tree Drop Off Site

Properties paying the “Solid Waste” fee on their monthly bills are eligible to use the Christmas tree drop-off sites.  Owners and tenants of properties not paying the fee should contact their regular waste hauler for service.  These sites are supported by fees, not taxes.

Beginning December 26, 2024 through January 9, 2024 there will be two (2) drop-off sites available for Christmas tree disposal.

Site one is located at the west end of Lakeview Arena parking lot, 401 E Fair Ave. Place tree inside orange fencing.

Site two is located at Hurley Field, 240 Mesnard St. Place tree inside orange fencing.

Residents are to remove all decorations and stands before disposing of their tree.

City of Marquette Offices Closed for Holidays

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front Street (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays on the following days:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 24
  • Wednesday, Dec. 25
  • Tuesday, Dec. 31
  • Wednesday, Jan. 1

Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time.

There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.

December 18 MBRA Meeting Canceled

The regular meeting of the City of Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Board has been canceled for December 18, 2024 due to a lack of agenda items. The meetings are held at 9:00 a.m. at the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, Marquette, MI. 49855 on the third Wednesday of each month

Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Seeking Public Input on Dogs in Playgrounds

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is seeking public input about dogs in playgrounds during public comment at their next meeting on December 16 at 5:30 p.m. Concerns have been raised about public health hazards from dog waste and potential undesirable interactions with kids. Members of the board will be discussing a proposal by City staff to enact a potential dog ban at playgrounds in the City of Marquette. There will be two public comment opportunities on the agenda; each individual is allowed three minutes to comment. Those who cannot attend can email a written comment to the staff liaison, Andrew MacIver, at amaciver@marquettemi.gov.

December 12 & 13 Commons Parking Lot Closed for Parade/Yule Market

The lower portion of the Commons Lot will be closed for parking on December 12 at 5 p.m. Cars will be allowed to exit, but no new vehicles will be allowed to enter.  The lower portion of the Commons Lot will remain closed until December 13 until 9 p.m. for the Holiday Parade/Yule Market.  Overnight permit holders are asked to park in the upper portion of the Commons Lot.

Opening Reception for Public Gallery Program Exhibits

On Thursday, December 12, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., the Peter White Public Library and the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture will be hosting the opening reception event for the new displays in the Public Gallery Program. Light refreshments provided including holiday cookies and hot chocolate. Receptions are free and open to the public. Exhibits are accessible during regular Library hours and will be on display through the end of January.

Receptions are generously made possible by Friends of PWPL. The Huron Mountain Club Gallery is located on the main level of PWPL. The Deo Gallery is located in the lower level of the PWPL in the City’s Arts & Culture Center; it is supported by the Lake Superior Art Association.

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, December 11 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side).  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
