Marji Gesick 50 Mile

On Saturday, September 20, the Marji Gesick 50-mile mountain bike race will be starting on Lakeshore Boulevard between Washington Street and Spring Street. Riders will head south to the Carp River bridge by means of Lakeshore Boulevard, the City multi-use path and Lake Street. Riders will continue under the bridge to Cliffs Power Road, Mount Marquette Road, and onto NTN trails.

Between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed between Spring Street and Washington Street and closed to through traffic between Washington Street and Ridge Street. Traffic will be detoured via Spring Street, Front Street and Ridge Street. Police officers will be directing traffic on Lakeshore Boulevard; however, Lake Street, Cliffs Power Road and Mount Marquette Road will remain open to traffic.

Motorists are advised to take caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for detour signage and police officers directing traffic

Public access limited during dredging project

The area immediately south of the Dead River will be temporarily closed to the public to allow for maintenance dredging at the mouth of the river.

This project is privately contracted and funded, and it is anticipated that this work will be completed within four weeks.

The public is advised to be aware of traffic control devices and to use caution when traveling through this area.  

Closure of South Lake Street

On Monday, September 15, 2025, South Lake Street will be closed to through traffic from 8:30am to 6:00 p.m. in order to install sewer and water laterals to 1032 South Lake Street.

Residents living south of 1032 South Lake Street will have access to their homes from US41.Residents living

Presque Isle Avenue and Fair Avenue Street Closures

Beginning Monday, September 22, Smith Construction will be closing Presque Isle Avenue between Waldo Street and Kaye Avenue and Fair Avenue between Presque Isle Avenue and Third Street. A signed detour route will be provided around the closure using Wright Street, Lakeshore Boulevard, Fair Avenue, Third Street, and Kaye Avenue. The closure is required for utility service connections for the new Northern Michigan University apartment buildings. The closure is anticipated to last two weeks during which time access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

The public is advised to take caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signage

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Shiras Room, on the top level of Peter White Public Library (Front Street side). The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

September Marquette Public Art Commission Meeting Relocated

The regular Marquette Public Art Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. in the Marquette Arts & Culture Center Studio #2 has been relocated to the Peter White Public Library Lion’s Club Room. The Lion’s Club Room is located on the main level of Peter White Public Library, 217 N. Front St., Marquette.

Cinder Pond Marina Fuel Services

The Cinder Pond Marina fuel dock will be out of service Tuesday, September 2 and Wednesday, September 3, 2025, for the installation of new gasoline & diesel fuel dispensers. Gasoline and diesel sales will resume on Thursday, September 4, 2025
