Clerk's Office Hours Extended for Election Purposes

For the month of July, the City Clerk’s office will have extended office hours for election purposes. Residents looking to register to vote or hoping to request or return and absentee ballot can visit the Clerk’s Office during the following hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 7:30 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m.

Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday, July 30: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The rest of City Hall offices continue to operate on summer hours.

Grove Street Closure to Through Traffic

On Wednesday July 13, Oberstar Inc. will be closing a section of Grove Street for water main work in Marquette Township. Grove Street will be closed to through traffic between Vandenboom Road and McClellan Avenue from 8:00am to 6:00pm. The work will occur just past City limits between Grandview Circle and Specker Circle. Access will be maintained to all residences and businesses.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

25th Annual City of Marquette Art Awards- Call for Nominations Extended


The City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture welcomes citizens to nominate deserving members of
the community to be considered for the 2022 Annual Art Awards. These awards are offered to recognize and thank citizens and organizations who have demonstrated artistic excellence and/or made significant contributions to the awareness of arts in our community.


Nominations for the 25th Annual Art Awards are being accepted for the following categories: Arts
Volunteer, Arts Advocate, Arts Educator, Youth Award, Visual Artist, Performing Artist, Writer,
Special Recognition, Arts Organization, and Arts Business.


For more information about the Annual Art Awards and a complete list of previous award recipients,

https://forms.office.com/r/1ztR8f2qJz. Please note that nominations for non-residents are welcome as
long as the nominee has made contributions in the City of Marquette. To ensure a large pool of
nominees, the nomination period has been extended to July 31st.


Award recipients are honored annually at a special ceremony and reception. This year’s ceremony is
scheduled for the evening of Saturday, October 8 at the Masonic Center in Downtown Marquette.
More information about the ceremony will be announced at a later date.

July Board of Review Schedule for July 19, 2022

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Review, City of Marquette will meet on July 19, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 300 W. Baraga Ave, Marquette, MI for the following purposes.

  1. An owner of property that is a "Principal Residence" on June 1 may appeal to the July Board of Review in the year for which an exemption was claimed or in the immediate succeeding 3 years if the exemption was not on the tax roll.  MCL 211.7cc(19) 
  2. Request for current year only for poverty exemptions, but not poverty exemptions denied by the March Board of Review.
  3. Request for P.A. 161 of 2013 Disabled Veterans Exemption.
  4. Correct clerical errors or mutual mistake of facts.

All required forms and documentation shall be received five days prior to said meeting.

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library.  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

Closure of Center Street Between Garfield and Lynn

On Wednesday July 6 beginning at 7:00am and continuing through Friday July 8, Center Street between Garfield Avenue and Lynn Avenue will be closed for a sewer service installation. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via Garfield, Lynn, and Waldo.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.
