Applications For City Commission Now Available

Applications are now available for City residents seeking appointment to the vacant seat on Marquette City Commission.

Applications are available through the City website, at www.marquettemi.gov/commissionapplication, and in person at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 300 W. Baraga Ave. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on Nov. 30.

Under the Marquette City Charter, “vacancies in elective offices shall, within 60 days, be filled for the unexpired term of the officer whose office has become vacant, by appointment by a majority vote of the members of the city commission then in office of a person possessing the qualifications for the office.”

Marquette New Hospital Transportation Project Ribbon Cutting

The City of Marquette, along with UP Health Systems Marquette, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the transportation project.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 20 at the Baraga Avenue roundabout, located in front of the new hospital construction area.

The completion of this project provides direct access to a new regional hospital and provides for safer transportation along US-41/M-28 for residents, visitors and the movement of commerce

Lakeshore Boulevard Closure to Through Traffic

Lakeshore Boulevard will be open by the afternoon on Friday, November 10th to through traffic between Baraga Avenue and the US41/ Genesee Street intersection. Beginning on Monday, November 13th the street will be closed again to allow for paving. It is anticipated that the road will be open that same day. Access to the Hampton Inn and residences along Lakeshore Boulevard will be by means of the US 41 and Genesee Street intersection
The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

Precinct 4 voter access tips for Election Day

Voters in Marquette’s Precinct 4 will be voting at the City’s Municipal Service Center, located at 1100 Wright Street, During the Nov. 7 General Election.
For ease of access, the west entrance to the MSC parking lot will be closed. Voters should use the east driveway (closest to the lake) to enter and exit the parking area.
Due to the construction, temporary traffic lights are present, and it will be quickest and simplest to access the precinct from the east.

Lakeshore Boulevard to close to through traffic

Beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 8, Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed to through traffic between Baraga Avenue and the US 41 / Genesee Street intersection. Closure to through traffic is required to place water and sanitary sewer utilities to the new development off Lakeshore and Baraga Avenue. It is anticipated that work will be completed by Saturday, Nov. 11. Access to the Hampton Inn and residences along Lakeshore Boulevard will be by means of the US 41 and Genesee Street intersection.

Timeline PhotosJULY 27 CITY COMMISSION MEETING: PARTICIPATION DETAILS
Due to Executive Orders issued from the Office of the Governor, the July 27 City Commission meeting will be held without the public in physical attendance. The public is invited to view and participate in the meeting electronically.
The meeting will be streamed on Channel 191 and YouTube starting at 6 p.m. Please note that the livestreams may have at least a 20 second delay.

Public Participation
There will be two options for public participation in the meetings: phone conferencing or written comment. There will be two public comment periods during each meeting, one at the beginning and one at the end. Comments will be limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address. Written comments will be limited to 500 words. Written comments can be submitted directly to shobbins@marquettemi.gov, written submissions will be accepted until 12 p.m. on Monday, July 27.
